We all knew he'd fail in NY. Phil Jackson can't build a team, he can only inherit a team.

Don't feel bad for Melo. He took the money. He should have known this wasn't going to end up being a good team for another 4-5 years.

Exactly. This is the second time he has chosen a terrible roster and money over winning why would I be sad for him? He even went into that nonsense about wanting to be a "brand" like Jordan. The dude is spending his last seasons in the NBA doing what he chose.

Do not want Melo. The Knicks are not trading him anyways.

The thing is, even if you WANT to "win now," it doesn't mean that drafting Porzingis is wrong.

First, it may well be that you don't think that any of the other players are much more ready to help you "win now" any more than Porzingis is. Most rookies, even those who are supposedly "NBA ready," are not big contributors to winning whether you measure it by coaches' subjective takes or by analytics.

Second, teams are allowed to trade players, including those drafted last night, this summer. So, if you want a chance at a guy who can really help your team "win now"-- maybe a disgruntled star who wants to leave, the smart thing to do is to draft the best asset available so you are in a good position to acquire what you want by trade.

The Knicks will be bad with the current GM, but their owner is even worse than the GM. Who cares? they are not going to be good anyway.

If the Knicks really want to trade Melo, and he really wants out, Miami would probably take him.

How funny would it be for all the Knicks b****ing about this draft pick, they trade Melo for Justise Winslow afterall.

That would be minus Melo though. They would be in total re-build mode more than they are know. Even though the likes of Stephen A. Smith believe that they are in win now mode.

And yet, building on Porzingis and Winslow would be the best thing for the Knicks franchise.

You might be right. Taking Melo and his contract off the books and waiting three years might be the best thing for the Knicks. We will have to mute Stephen A. Smith for the next three years if that happened.

His only real success in Denver was the one and only time they got out the 1st Round in 2009, going to the WCF vs LAL. But he doesn't make his teammates better IMO; if he did, then NYK would be ECF contenders on a yearly basis, and not a lottery team.

Did Melo think that the #4 pick was the key to a championship?

... see what I did there?

How about no. Melo will not help this team.

Had it been Kevin Love, Steven A would probably say something like that. No way in hell he'd say that about MELO. One of his BOYS and "contacts"

Had Kevin Love took money over chance at Chip, Stephen A would sound something like this:

'So Kevin Love now has the AUDACITY TO COMPLAIN???? I'm not saying he's not a great player. I love his game, and he's a perennial All-Star. But to come back NOW and say he was USED and PLAYED is simply ASANINE, BLASPHEMOUS, QUADILATERALLY ABSURD!!!'
