Y'all be saying it ain't working after he fired Joe Bugel after his Jeff George-ass team went 4-12 in 97, What did the man do? He hired Gruden and brought in Rich Gannon and the team was resurrected for 4 years.

And we got supreme young talent in Jerry Porter, Phillip Buchanon, Napoleon Harris, Teyo Johnson, Tyler Brayton, Justin Fargas, Langston Walker and Doug Jolley, thats a good starting foundation, we got guys who can play.

This team isn't a worthless sack of **** that nobody wants to coach, this is a team in turmoil and Al Davis has brought us back before, and he'll be damned if he's gonna sit through 2 or 3 more 4-12 seasons.

And he ran them both off, Shanahan is apparently still pissed off at his treatment by the Raiders organization.

Personally, I like Al Davis because I think he's fun (I thought it was funny that he walked around the expansion meetings in 1999 with a folder that said "Los Angeles Raiders" on it), but I also think he doesn't know his limitations and can be too hands-on with the organization. Sometimes that works out because, like you said, he's not a football idiot. He knows the game. But a lot of the time, his meddling runs off good people before their time. He may be nicer than heck to them, but it's still meddling.

Now, normally, the Cowboys organization would be even worse since Jones has a lot of the same tendencies but has less football knowledge and know-how than Davis. But Jones realized his limitation and hired Parcells. For the time being, Parcells is the man in charge in Dallas. It is probably too his benefit for Payton to stay with Parcells at least another year. Parcells assistants are often highly sought after and long-lived in the NFL. In a year or two, Payton might be able to write his own ticket.

Heck, he might be groomed to take over from Parcells in Dallas in a couple of years.

All I'm saying is that it's not necessarily a bad choice to stick with the Cowboys and Parcells and not go to the headache that is turning around the Raiders organization with a meddling owner and a team full of very dissatisfied and seemingly angry veteran players.

Plus, no telling how many trials the Raiders coach will have to testify in. :)

Like or not, coaching the Raiders is not the dream job in the NFL these days.

If Jacksonville picks up Keyshawn Johnson, whom they are doing a background check of as of yesterday (1-21-04), they may take Udeze with the ninth selection. I would like to see the Texans try to move up.

I am so sick of hearing this crap. Dude had 38 carries the entire season! 38 CARRIES!!!! This is after playing like 4 games at RB in college. He is a project pure and simple and since Davis performed so well it's now convenient to second guess the decision on Hollings. Nothing is for certain, certaintly not second round picks supplemental or otherwise. They took a chance and it's one we will not know the results about for awhile yet.

And another thing, it wasn't really a second rounder we gave up. We made a trade for that pick giving up what a third or fourth rounder? And everyone in America, EVERYONE thought the Raiders would make a push for the Superbowl. Casserly assumed, (he didn't have the 20/20 vision inherent in every armchair GM) the Raiders pick would be late in the second round, basically a third round pick. It just so happens the Raiders played like crap and now that pick looks like gold. Point being many circumstances came together to make the present situation appear to be what it is. None of which anyone could have forseen.

Ugh... anyway... I really like Udeze a lot more than say Wilfork who's zipcode covering @ss has potential bust written all over it.

I hope the Texans get Tommy Harris. He was triple teamed all the time in college, like Mel says. He's the best defensive lineman I have ever seen in the history of football.

I hope my other team, the Niners, gets Wilfork. That's a solid pick. Or a receiver or a corner. Actually if Chris Gamble slips to the Niners pick, they gotta nab him to play both ways.

Not only that, but Tommie Harris sh*ts helmets, builds homes for Habit for Humanity, won the Nobel Prize, and is known to have found a cure for cancer....-> all while being triple-teamed.

Jake is alright but I know if the Texans offered them Henson they would take him in a heartbeat. Jake only passed for 100yds in the NFC Championship game. He is nothing special.

Yep, Delhomme has the Trent Dilfer syndrome. Win the Super Bowl, but still might not get re-signed.

If Jacksonville signs Keyshawn, the Texans can say goodbye to Udeze. That is a tremendous defensive line if Jacksonville gets Udeze to play alongside Henderson and Stroud. The offensive side of the ball is pretty lethal as well for the Jags if they sign Keyshawn. Key is a solid possession reciever to compliment a receiving corps that includes Kevin Johnson and Jimmy Smith and a ground attack including Fred Taylor.

It is not going to be a pleasant experience having to play Jacksonville with the addition of Udeze to that already nice defensive four upfront. Especially in the Texans case, having to play them twice. I think the Texans could, and should, move up to the eighth slot if not higher.

Crap, I'm trying to find a way to shoot a hole in this (just because I'd like Udeze to be available at #10) but you may be right. If Meshawn goes to J-ville, they're next biggest need is a replacement for "the player formerly known as Hugh Douglas".

Hmm.. they need CB and S help as well but no CB seems to be worth it unless they fall in love with Gamble and only Sean Taylor is worthy of a top ten selection but most likely will not last till #9.

How about a TE? Let them have Winslow.

    R-e-e-e-a-a-l-l-y.

Jake was highly sought after. As I understand it, the Panthers beat out Parcell's Cowboys for Jake's services. Granted, he's not superstar but he does win games. That's impressive!

I'd like to give that TE we drafter last year outta Michigan a chance before we use 1st round picks on another TE, there are other more pressing needs than drafting Winslow

    From Pro Football Weekly:

Hollings could make Casserly look like a genius — next year

Based on what normal recovery curve for RB's with ACL reconstruction, this comming year should show major gains for Mr. Hollings' game.

Will Henson make Casserly look like a genius this year? FA QBs are scarce. The top draftable guys are few in number. Several need a Drew Henson but could not get anything like him -- without mortgaging their future. Tell me that last statement is true and correct, please.

I wish there were more buzz out there about Henson...

Henson will only sign with the Texans if he can get some say in where he'll be traded to. You better hope he signs a contract.

Give me a proven commodity like Rashaun, Tubbs, Vasher, Strait, or Lehman over a gimpy RB any day of the week. What a goddam waste.

hahaha, I guess the Texans should hire the football genius that you are. I wouldn't be surprised if 3 of those 5 don't even amount to much. I'm glad we have a resident psychic to bestow us with his knowledge about Hollings as well as some Big XII player's future NFL careers.

What have any of those guys proven that Hollings hasn't? They become proven when they actually make plays in the NFL. Remember Hollings was leading the nation in rushing before he blew out his knee.

The buzz is building. It's just a matter of Henson agreeing to let us trade him or if he wants to get drafted.

INSIDE DISH: Henson's NFL stock rising

Interest in Drew Henson is picking up, as the word out of Bradenton, Fla., is that Henson looks like a highly skilled quarterback and a tremendous athlete.

Henson is working out at the IMG complex with former quarterbacks coach Larry Kennan in an attempt to get back in football shape and show interested NFL teams what kind of ability he has. The Texans own his rights after selecting Henson in the sixth round of the 2003 draft and are interested in trading him. The asking price is believed to be a future second-round pick.

If Houston doesn't trade or sign Henson, he will be available in the April draft, and it is expected he would be a late first-round selection. Henson, who last played football at Michigan in 2000, has been playing third base in the Yankees' farm system. ...

To all of the Tommie Harris haters out there. Casserly was on 610 the other day and said that Tommie Harris is hands down the best DL prospect out there. If Harris is available at #10 it looks like he will be the Texans choice.
