I watched the show last night. There would be vents on top and at the bottom that would create some sort of circulation that keeps the temperature 15 degrees cooler than it would be normally and the humidity at 10%. That should appease all the people who think we're bottling up farts in it.
You guys are taking this pretty seriously. I thought it was a fun, campy program. Who wouldn't want to live in a gigantic dome-- especially in the city responsible for air-conditioning baseball?
I think this would be a pretty good plan though I don't think it would work out because of all the nature that lives near downtown... there'd be too many people to oppose it, and it'd also cost too much money. There are too many negatives to build it, but I really wouldn't mind it, maybe an experimental portion in a smaller zone of Houston just to see how it is? Still.. it's some really cool stuff, I love Mega Engineering on Discovery, they have some crazy ideas... just about 5 or 6 months ago I saw an idea of them talking about the pyramid being proposed in Japan.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shimizu_Mega-City_Pyramid
I think this would be sweet. Some of the arguments people are making against it aren't very well thought out. Do you really think this dome wouldn't be ventilated?
Maybe, but Tropical Storm Allison caused tremendous property damage 7 years prior to Ike. In 2005, there was a very close call with Rita. Without that little turn at the end, it would have been BAD.
It would be too small. What's going to happen to the millions of people who live in the suburbs of Houston? Nothing, and when the next hurricane hits there will be millions of suburbians flocking into the dome and would become overcrowded.
That would be cool and then make dome tunnels to the grocery stores and then if the city flooded over you could have a mini atlantis.
