dont get me wrong im still going to eat more but I want to support the farmers that decide to treat their animals more humanely. eat the vegetables without all the pesticides, and drink milk from happy cows. =) "karma" J
There are a couple of places in Houston that specialize in that kind of stuff. If you go onto Yahoo yellowpages and do a search for "organic market" I'm sure you'll find some. If you're looking for chains, Whole Foods has the best selection of organic foods around.. the prices are a bit steep for SOME of the products.. Randall's is starting to step up its organic products as well.
That was a horrific video, but I like beef. and chicken. and pork. While I think organic food is better, it's too expensive for me. It's a shame that the animals can't be treated better though.
I got to see alot of this in person last year for one of my classes. The slaughtering of the pig/cow in the video is pretty much what I got to witness. From what I saw the animals were treated with respect. The video doesn't mention that those animals are shocked unconsciously before slaughter. When they cut their throats they are not alive and well. So it is not as brutal as what they portrayed it as. Mass killing cannot be pretty, I don't have the heart to work at a farm or a slaughterhouse. But I respect the work they do a few clips of a few bums abusing these animals won't change that. The industry is as clean as it can get. Not to long ago we were just shooting the brains out of these animals atleast we've grown from that.
The fact that this is a PETA video gives it a lot less credibility, especially when you notice contradictions on several occasions. PETA will seek video of the worst of the worst, and treat it as commonplace everywhere. Not to mention that wild pigs in America would be of epically bad proportions. Pigs turn feral almost immediately in the wild.
I had dead pig for lunch, and for dinner I will eat the breast of a dead chicken. Yeah, the video was touching, but when I'm hungry, eating meat takes priority for me.
