I believe that either candidate will do this. At this point, I think that both candidates know that partisanship just isn't going to get it done anymore.

Does it really matter? After all, the last time I looked, San Francisco was still part of the United States.

It would do any new President-elect well to sit down with the Speaker (or Majority leader when the Speaker is a self-serving, obstinate partisan) and Minority Leader and consider anyone for any position where they can get consensus. That builds a somewhat bi-partisan Cabinet, rewards good Reps, and sets a good tone for future work with Congress.

    Yes. It does matter.

it's a code word used to portray Dems as all gay or effete and further divide people along cultural lines.

The sad part is that they can't really come out and say "We don't like gays." If they did, they would lose votes. So they use words like this to rally the base and slip it by a bunch of Americans.

The whole thing lowers our discourse and makes it tougher for elected officials to govern because you either have to buy into this mindset or you have to fight this mindset... a mindset deliberately created to set up this dynamic just for that reason.

I believe that you are mistaken to the meaning of the term. You see, when Obama spoke to working class people in Scranton, he was courting their vote, etc. Then, Obama went to San Francisco and talked about the working class "clinging to their guns and their God" in a condescending fashion.

Ever since that moment, there have been some that reference San Francisco every chance they get.

More "bounce" coming to McCain this week. ;)

(Or is it the air being let out of the Dem balloon?)

A bit of a stretch to refer to that particular instance as a San Francisco "value". And it sounded like it was used as a pejorative.

    To me, at least.

Wrong. "San Francisco values" has been Republican code for gay since the 1990s.

Are you saying that Biden was who Barack had pined after all along? Or was he chosen to politically quell the 'inexperience' questions?

This has nothing to do with the Palin pick. Palin was picked before the election, meaning McCain has to make a cynical political choice. He'll pick his cabinet after the election, so he can pick people with an eye to good governance. There's no reason to think he'll have to make a dumb governance decision to satisfy political needs, as he may have thought he had to with Palin. So, picking Democrats would be easy, if he has a mind to do it.

Of course, mentioning it now is just a political maneuver designed to help win the election. It may never happen, but it'd be because he lied about his intentions not because other Republicans, to whom he sold out, won't let him. The sell out ends after election day.

Right, since you are clearly the expert on all things Republican. What a joke.

Check Wikipedia, Bats. Here you go:

Among other things, the term has been associated with same-sex marriage, anti-war activism, pro-choice philosophy, mar1juana decriminalization, secularism, anti-Americanism, open-door immigration policies, and a more socialist government.
