Fadi's is okay nothing compared to them. They've been open since 1986 I believe & they opened up a new location which is more of a restaurant / hooka bar on Westheimer.
Sounds good man! we'll check it out. We also had some hummus at Ruggles Green last night and it was pretty damn good there too. Love me some Ruggles Green.
http://www.maozusa.com/ there's your amsterdam place. a buddy of mine also swears by it. you should try superpita on hillcroft off of s. braeswood. best falafel in the city.
This and four beers were all I did in Amsterdam. It was a pretty good falafel but it definitely wasn't worth the trip.
Best falafel I ever had, btw, was in the Haight in SF, CA. They put all kinds of stuff on that falafel. Sundried tomatoes, cucumbers, all kinds of stuff. But complementary stuff. It was loaded and great. I wish I remembered the name of the place.
I second this. I have a Fadi's near the casa. Have gone twice and they have not disappointed. Big hit w/ my parents and my in-laws.
Totally agree with you on Zabak's. I hit it up about once a week for lunch. Their falafel is the best I've had. Last time I went I got the chicken kabob meal. Tons of good quality food for under $10. Another place you should check out is Kasra on westheimer, though it's more Persian than Med. It's in the same parking lot as Yao's and Benihana's. Hummus is out of this world there.
Darband, Bijan, Garson, and Kasra (all that comes to mind right now) are all Persian food, not Mediterranean. Persian is Iranian btw. And yes I know, Persian food rules.
Aren't you guys talking about Middle Eastern food? (Falafel, Fadi's, Phoenicia Deli, etc...) Mediterranean food is Greek food.
Well Fadi's says they're Mediterranean. lol. So does Darband. *EDIT* : I just looked at Darband's menu and they seem to have a mixture of Greek and Middle Eastern stuff. Heck, I see cajun stuff on there.
Yes Darband is good but is not mediterranean..Persian food is the best maybe im just a little bias though Chilcutt
At the risk of running this into D&D, I've never understood the revulsion to veal and (presumably) baby octopus. Is it somehow more or less ethical to eat/slaughter adult animals compared to infant animals?
Generally the issue with veal is not that baby cows are small and cute, but that they're really, really poorly treated (even compared to other animals raised in factory farm conditions) when they're being used to produce commercial veal. That said, I've tried pastured veal before and it's very tasty. Don't know about baby octopi. In this case it might just be a general revulsion towards cephalopods in general (plus I think BJ's a vegetarian)
I know that you are a vegan (been lurking here a long long time). May I ask, though, would you have responded the same way if dharocks was cooking adult octopi? What about steak?
