You know, I really don't get why an owner will spend 50-60 million dollars a year in player salaries, a few million on a coach, more on a gym, and NOT spend millions to see that investment pay off.

I don't know of any limitations on spending towards the health of the team, whether that is physical, emotional, motivational, whatever. Success coaches, therapists, trainers, etc.

If the guys are needing to improve free throws, why don't they have Calvin Murphy in?

Steve Francis never really learned the PG position. Hire Oscar Robertson to teach it to him, Rafer, Head, Brooks, even BJ, or whoever is the absolute best. I'm surprised when anyone who was the best isn't valued highly training others. Why don't we have the Dream teaching footwork, and make it worth his while?

The team doesn't even have to have everyone travel every game, either. This could be a good use during the season for players not in the rotation. If Novak isn't being used because of his defense, why don't they have the best guys in the league teaching him the side of his game that is missing. Why don't they have a success coach training Gerald Green in life habits?

We should have learned from when we lost Lucas, Loyd and Wiggins, and never gone through the Griffin debacle. But, instead, we spend millions scouting players, instead of doing what it takes to see them improve.

Whether it is a preventative and excelling approach to the medical issues, which we've CLEARLY failed at this year, to the emotional, like Head losing his confidence, to the basketball skills of players like Novak, to the psychological of someone like Green.

This has been left to the players, because they are PROs, and not supposed to be babies at this stage, but the owners are spending many millions getting someone, and then letting their investments fail. Bad business. Spend more in these areas, and we'll have a much better team. This is more important than getting more players.

Or he do something revolutionary and work his legs too!

    j/k...kinda

I don't know if it is the muscle he has gained as much as the fat. He certainly looked better this season than last but he needs to lean up like he was in his early 20s. I'll never understand how professional basketball players in their 20s or early 30s are able to hold as much bf as some of them do.

Great post. Even as much as 4-5 million dollars (or more) a year would be well worth the cost of having the best medical staff and the best former players as life coaches and personal mentors for young players. It would also be a great way for many retired greats to stay close to the game (as so many want to do) and give them some on the job experience in case they want to try their hand as a head coach later on.
