IMO, the missed injury of McGrady's knee warranted a firing or at least the addition of some "new blood" into the Rockets' medical staff. One mistake is too many when tens or hundreds of milliions of dollars are on the line.
The medical staff had a bad year. T-Mac's delayed MRI. Yao's stress fracture. Carl Landry's bruised knee that took forever to heal. Rafer's hammy. Stevie's quad. Sure, some players are injury prone, but why does it seem like the Rockets are plagued by injuries every season? We can't afford another year lost to injuries. The Yao/T-Mac window has maybe 2 years left.
Someone posted an image a few months ago showcasing many of the Rockets injuries from the past decade - Barkley, SF3, McGrady, Yao, etc., etc. Each section of the image had one thing in common with the other... You guessed it. I understand that luck and age have to considered (Barkley, Drexler, Olajuwon, Francis, Sura were all veterans), but as the OP pointed out, when Phoenix gets a full year out of Grant freaking Hill and Shaq, there just might be something we're missing.
Maybe the Phoenix Suns medical staff can help Darius Miles he's only 26 and his career is already over. http://www.nba.com/blazers/news/Trail_Blazers_request_waivers_-267482-1218.html Hoopshype has him already listed as a free agent. http://hoopshype.com/free_agency.htm
i think tracy needs to slim down a little bit and focus on conditioning instead of strength. his chicken legs weren't made to support all the muscle he's been adding over the years. he should use his lighter frame as an advantage in quickness, like tayshaun, instead of trying to turn himself into lebron.
A few years ago...2004-2005...when we lost to Dallas in the playoffs...the Rockets were one of the LEAST injured teams in the league. Also 2003-2004. I say bad luck. The types of injury are so unusual. Not much you can do about broken legs, stress fractures and shoulder injuries. Hamstrings, quads, ankle sprains another problem. Another point...you are so quick to j**rk off the Suns staff....but Amare suffered a major injury BEFORE he rehabbed. It's not like the injury never happened. And I don't see our guys recovering slowly. Yao always is ahead of schedule and comes back better.
the delayed MRI was inexcusable!!...that alone should get some people fired.... also, they should have sat Alston out at the regulare season final week to rest him for playoffs instead of pushing him back....
Where was the almighty Suns medical team when Grant Hill got hurt in the PLAYOFFS? Talk about choking under pressure. This thread is asinine. Insinuating that Keith Jones is responsible for Yao's broken bones or Tmac's injuries because of his new job title?
The frequency of which our players get injured is cause for examination. I'm not saying that our injuries were preventable. What I'm saying is there is precious little information coming out of the Rockets organization itself as to what they are doing. Questioning our results is not necessarily a bad thing. If they are getting it done day in and day out, then kudos to the Rockets training staff. As it is, nobody aside from a Rockets insider really knows what is going on.
The Suns medical staff was awful in those days. They were the Miami Heat of their time. That's why they overhauled their medical staff.
We can't be the like the Miami Heat. Don't say you are doing all you can, while Shaq rides the pine. In the 2nd video, Shaq was very complimentary about the medical staff and the methods that he hadn't seen before. It doesn't matter who we trade for, if they are going to be injured the whole season.
You guys are acting like the Rockets have no idea there have been a lot of injuries. They have probably talked about this issue, and are trying to resolve it or have come up with a solution. They are professionals.
National Academy of Spors Medicine had just signed on in 2003. It's guys like McDyess, Hardaway and Gugliotta that forced the Sun's hand in getting better help. The Rocket's hand is being forced, but they are following the same direction apparently. http://www.nasm.org/about/default.aspx?id=1288 2003 The NBA Phoenix Suns sign a multi-year agreement with NASM. Each member of the team undergoes a "kinetic-chain" assessment to determine each individual's possible dysfunctions. Based on the information, each player is given a training system to correct muscular imbalances, with the goal of preventing injuries and improving performance.
I am skimming through the rest of the page and found some statistics. It's an amazing improvement. They dropped frequency of treatments by over 60%! The National Academy of Sports Medicine is amazing! -------------------------------------- NBA Phoenix Suns athletic trainers report that by using NASM methodology they have cut treatments for injuries by more than half (from 2,500 treatments during the 2002-2003 season to 950 in 2003-2004), and that the starting lineup has been available in 64 of 74 games for the league-leading Suns. The Suns are the only professional team to have a fully integrated partnership with NASM. --------------------------------------
well i don't know why we should try? I mean of all people I feel it would help Yao and maybe Mcgrady?
