No, I don't think it is. I think it's better. The person who could tell me for sure is out of pocket, though.

Sorry for the confusion. When you say "I think it's better"....are you referring to your insurance plan or the ones state of texas teachers get?

rhad, just looked at the ers website and I think you are right. since she didn't opt in during her first 31 days she now has to go through EOI.

Another example of the ****ed up health care system people have to use.

Sorry to get your hopes up.

Also, you can try and appeal the EOI rejection. I have doubts about how successful that would be if you use more than an aspirin

Yeah, it's absolutely maddening. That's not a benefit at all. It's a bad joke.

So, they force participants to pass EOIs to join after 31 days, which lets them basically pick and choose only the most healthy folks. Yet, the premiums continue to go up? That makes no sense!

If you don't sign up in 31 days you can be denied for the rest of your life? Wtf kind of plan is that? I would understand it for a private company trying to control costs - but this is the state! The best rationale for state employment is the benefits and the stability - if you remove either of those, the pay becomes an utter liability. Whatever, she plans to quit this job in 2 years so...well, ****, I guess that means I get screwed for no good reason whatsoever for 2 more years. Hooray.

**** insurance. What a load of total horse****.

    Oh and:

That made me feel a bit better.

it started with W and thats the way its been. I've done 10yrs at the state and have decided to stick it out and retire with them, even though the benefits are decreasing and I could make a ton more away from the state. But what you have said makes the decision tough and there is no stability anymore either, layoffs are common. (I've worked half my time non gov as well so I know both sides).

Either way the whole system sucks. I'm not gung ho on the new health care law but at least its an attempt. small business is getting killed by it imo

Its frustrating and you can definitely see how people fall through the cracks even when trying to do the right thing

you might want to try appealing. at least check your options, ERS has always seemed responsive when I dealt with them.

The other problem I've noticed is that Blue Cross has had this forever. It seems strange that there hasn't been more bidding - Politics!
