I can't stand either of those games, the entire Battlefield series is terrible imo I am with the other poster, COD 4 is the best FPS ever, BY FAR imo
I love bc2, but even I have to put black ops over it. It's so balanced and I can see myself playing it for a very long time. I'll still make some appearances on bc2 again when they release the new maps though. I enjoyed BF 1942, but I'd have to put Goldeneye as my best fps.
Uh...yeah, CS doesn't really work for me either. My point was I was disturbed by the lack of Half-Life, System Shock, Deus Ex, Crysis, etc. Unless the discussion was simply about best online/competitive FPS games, in which case omitting those games is fine.
Halo 3 is the best multiplayer FPS ever, followed by BF2/1942, then by CoD4/Black Ops (Props to CoD4 for introducing a ton of awesome concepts, but Black Ops has improved on it a ton from there so Black Ops is probably the winner there). by campaign, CoD4 easily had the best of any I've played. I've never played System Shock though, I hear thats real good. Half-Life 1 and 2 are good but overrated. Bioshock is up there too but not the best. By BC2 you mean bad company 2, right? I would put that far behind any of the Halos, CoD4, MW2, and Black Ops, and behind BF2 and 1942. It was good but not great.
I seriously do not understand how CoD 4 gets any praise for its single-player campaign (the multiplayer is another story of course). It had some great scripted set pieces. But that's about all the praise it gets from me. Just average at best in most other areas. In terms of game design, gameplay content, diversity/innovation, storyline, etc., most of the other FPS games I listed are FAR better. Generally takes more than 4 hours to beat too (pretty sure it takes 4 hours just to get off the train in HL1). Granted, opinions differ, but I just have trouble seeing it there.
Story was genuinely interesting, it was short but the pacing was great and didn't let up, no boring parts (like there is in the half-life games), some of the best "HOLY ****" moments in any game I played, an awesome ending, and some of the most memorable levels in any game I ever played. I also wish it was a bit longer but on the bright side it being so short like I said doesn't allow for any boring parts and makes sure it doesnt get stale before its over.
So I lied. With everyone else and their mom picking up Black Ops I decided why not. That and I made the mistake of picking up Reach, so I had a blue chip as far as trade-in value. So far I like it. Multiplayer feels way more balanced than MW2. The things I don't like: Servers are bad, even on 360... haven't had much luck getting into a game with a party of more than 2 Spawns at time feel even worse than MW2, which is amazing Guns feel like they spray a little much... when I stop to watch the kill cam, a lot of times it feels like it a guy just spraying all over the place and getting lucky (including spraying through walls)
The story was far from interesting to me. It didn't really deviate from most terrorist+nuke storylines (which we get plenty of in games, movies, books, etc). Not really anything unique or interesting about it, at least from what I can recall. Generic characters/villains. Again, some good set pieces that went with the story (basically good execution), but the story itself was nothing special. And partly because of that, I'd also have to disagree about the awesome ending. Guess it was good, but still pretty low on the scale of awesome compared to countless other games. I guess you have a point about pacing, but I find it inexcusable to make a game that short. Might as well just not have a campaign if it is going to be that short IMO (unless you're doing a downloadable game). Even then, I was starting to get bored with it, though luckily the credits screen came up around then.
I get kinda sick playing zombies for some reason. The best I got was 11 rounds with my nephew. Both of them tear **** up.
No AMD CrossfireX support for the game yet! I'm hoping AMD will add CFX support for Black Ops in the next driver release. I was actually surprised when I first played Black Ops with CFX enabled and I was getting 40-50fps on the SP main menu. I exited the game and switched CFX off and the framerate jumped to 80-90fps on the SP main menu. Going to the green side of things, has nVidia released SLI support for Black Ops yet? IIRC, nVidia users were having bad performance with SLI also. One thing I've always liked about nVidia was their fairly frequent releases of drivers. AMD has been releasing drivers once a month, with one or two hotfixes in between if needed. They have released 5 hotfixes since 10.10 (October's release), so maybe this is the beginning of AMD releasing more frequent driver updates.
I liked the story. The explosions were definitely over-the-top, but I didn't get the same cheesy feel as I did from earlier games. The plot twist was a bit unexpected too, and Treyarchs' decision to advance the plot through the means of interactive interrogation and subliminal cutscenes was pretty interesting. I enjoyed it.
