Florida man accused of slamming gator against building, says he was ‘teaching it a lesson’: cops A Florida man is accused of stealing an alligator from a miniature-golf course, repeatedly swinging the animal around by its tail and slamming it into a building in a cruel overnight attack this week. Suspect William “Bubba” Hodge was initially seen carrying a gator down a street in Daytona Beach Shores around 3 a.m. Thursday before cops caught him “trying to throw the alligator onto the roof of a business and slamming it on the ground by its tail,” authorities said. The 32-year-old immediately surrendered to police and told them he had stolen the creature from a nearby mini-golf facility “after a brief wrestling match,” police said. When asked why he was attacking the gator, Hodge said he was “teaching it a lesson,” the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety said in a statement. The suspect is also accused of stomping on the reptile twice and hitting it against a building awning, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by local media. Despite surrendering without any incident, Hodges reportedly tried to cause a mess at the Volusia County Jail. Police said he stuffed the toilet in his cell with paper to clog it and threatened to flood the whole facility, ClickOrlando.com reported. Hodges was charged with animal cruelty, alligator poaching, burglary, criminal mischief and petit theft, jail records show. He was still being held Friday on $4,500 bond. The gator survived the abuse and was returned to the mini-golf facility. Spoiler
That story checks just about every Florida Man box on the list -- I do wonder what the gator said that set him off.

James Clark, 69, told police that when he returned to his Port Charlotte home on Monday, he saw some clothes strewn around by the pool. 'We saw like a shirt and some shoes and a bag, you know, and like a couple denim shorts and a jacket,' Clark told WINK News. 'Totally unreal, you know.' He said he then took a look around, and found 'a naked white female in the pool,' who was later identified as 42-year-old Heather Kennedy, police report. 'She basically was just lying down, head on the bricks on the side of the pool and just totally incoherent,' Clark said, noting that he felt 'violated' by the intrusion. Police were dispatched to the scene at 2.58pm, according to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, and found Kennedy still in the pool. An officer reports that he 'was able to locate the female clothes near the pool, and I asked her to get dressed,' but Kennedy became hostile. She reportedly did not want to identify herself to the police or 'explain why she was there,' the police report says, and asked that the police 'leave her alone,' saying 'she was not going anywhere.' Eventually, police said, she did exit the pool, but 'struggled' with police officers as they tried to arrest her. Clark claims she then tried to flee the scene. 'She was walking out the door, and one of them was running after her,' he told WINK News. 'And so then they got next door, got her stopped and three of them got her handcuffed, and put her in the car.' Kennedy is now facing trespassing and resisting arrest charges. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Charlotte County court on August 4. She had previously been convicted on a felony narcotics possession and a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia count, The Smoking Gun reports, following a traffic stop in which police found morphine pills, mar1juana and crack cocaine and meth pipes. She allegedly denied ownership of the pills at the time, claiming they belonged to 'a male by the name of Crackhead Chris.' It remains unclear what possessed her to take a dip in Clark's pool on Monday, but his neighbor, Edna Croley said Kennedy tried to get into her pool first. 'She was at the screen door of my pool, trying to get it open,' Croley told WINK News. 'But luckily, I always lock my screen doors to the pool.' Clark said his screen doors were unlocked while he was away - something, he says, he will never do again.
