Cover for him while telling them he did steroids?? Do you not see how nonsensical that is? He told them not only that Roger did steroids...but that he was there when it happened and administered the injections! But he was protecting him too? Nonsense.
OK so let's sum it up quickly. McNamee gets busted by the feds and part of his deal is he has to name players he used. He names two non-superstars and one superstar in order to get his immunity. Then he's forced to comply with Senator Mitchell's investigation. Up until this point, his word has been taken at face value, with the question of evidence not even coming up. Then, the superstar legend he's accused and tarnished undertakes the process of defending his innocence and clearing his name. He plays a tape he recorded of him and McNamee. Enraged, McNamee, a former police officer, releases physical evidence that he had not previously mentioned. This evidence is syringes, gauze, and steroids viles that "allegedly" have traces of Clemens blood and steroids on them. So...a man who's son is dying, wife has left him, is under severe pressure from the feds to incriminate people, and who has a very shady past including a rape case, has legit physical evidence all along but held off on it out of respect? He didn't want to "bury" Clemens to begin with? He'll just detail it all but won't prove it unless Clemens makes him mad? Come on. The only way, the ONLY WAY, you can accept this as believable and logical is if you WANT Roger to be guilty. Any objective person looks at this and says "Hey Roger may be guilty for all I know, but this McNamee character and all his evidence smells way too bad to be taken seriously." Oh, and to "Buck Turgidson" who said that the accusation that Roger has made up injuries for 20 years, I urge you to go read quotes from his teammates and his managers in that time span. While you're at it, read Joe Torre's first book. From all accounts, Roger Clemens was a guy who NEVER turned down the opportunity to pitch, even when he was hurt or sick. Joe Torre recounts an example of Jeff Weaver not wanting to pitch a game and Roger pitching instead, despite being ill, and being FURIOUS with Weaver for turning down a chance to pitch. This past year, Roger went out despite being in a ton of pain and shut down the Red Sox. That game is probably the game that ultimately ended his career. He wasn't supposed to be playing but the Yankees needed a starter and he went out there and gave all that he had, even making an amazing play at first to get a runner out that injured his hamstring even worse. After that, he was unable to pitch well again. You can say he's an attention w****, or an egomaniac, or a mercenary, but saying that Roger Clemens has dogged it is a total falsehood. I don't think I've ever seen a player who grinds it out as much as Roger Clemens.
Max, it is not nonsense at all, McNamee is not stupid, he knows that it is a he said/he said deal, and that there was basically no proof outside of what was said. But when Clemens took off the gloves and tossed him under the bus (as he suspected would happen) McNamee fired back with his hard evidence. It is not nonsense at all......the little guy needs more bullets to counter act the big guys massive size in guns....(IE MONEY). DD
Exactly. It's easy to say "Well this happens to celebrities and it's not a big deal", but it is. This isn't a man who just went to work a few times for a big payday and is not being criticized by fans. This is a guy who gave his blood, sweat, and tears to baseball for two decades. This is his life. His family's life. And now not only are people trying to say that all that he gave to this game, his life, is tarnished, but they are also running him in front of Congress where he has to argue that he ISN'T a liar and he isn't a cheat. All because a rapist gave his name to federal agents who were going to throw him jail for a long time.
I'm going to stop reading here. Dude drugged a girl, removed her clothing, and raped her in a public hotel swimming pool. "McNamee is not stupid," indeed.
But then why keep evidence that would implicate yourself? So Roger played that phone call for everyone to hear...it's seems the majority of people felt it either hurt Clemen's case or didn't help either side. I just find it hard to believe that this evidence is just turning up now when there were not one, but two opportunities for investigators to uncover it. And what good does withholding evidence do for Clemens when he's already been named and his career and reputation have forever been harmed?
Right...but I think you are being seriously naive in this. The feds never asked for evidence to back up his allegations. They granted him immunity based on his allegations but never once, not ONE TIME, did they ask him if he could corroborate it. Sounds logical enough! Then the Mitchell report runs Clemens into the mud and does the same. Not one time do they ask if any of this is true. They take the word of a rapist with every reason to lie without a single time asking if there is any evidence to support his claim. Certainly reasonable. Then, McNamee decides that despite protecting Roger by throwing his name under the bus with the Feds and Mitchell, he will now actually try to hurt him by releasing evidence. After all, all he had done up until now was protect Roger's good name. Now that I think it out, it all makes sense DaDa! Oh wait, no it doesn't unless you try to rationalize it with your despite for Clemens.
So sorry Cat!!! It was Buck!! My humblest apologies! But you shouldn't care, by accusing you I was only protecting your good name! No really, sorry I just got a little irritated and put the wrong name.
Uhhhhhh....so now you are jumping to conclusions........mmmmmmmkaay. He was not charged with any crime, but I am sure Clemens lawyers will blast him about this.......guilt or not.....more mud slinging...all is fair in love and war I guess. McNamee was a NY cop, he knows what he is doing.....yes he is scum but not stupid. As for Clemens the important question is...will he submit a DNA sample or duck that too, like he did the direct questions on the recorded phone call. DD
LOL, so it is my hatred of Clemens eh? Funny, I thought it was just me wanting to find out if Roger used steroids. So far, in a he said/ he said argument only one guy has submitted evidence, let's see if Roger gives the DNA up. Because we know that Andy already admitted what McNamee said was true...... I see a lot of ostrichs defending Roger, they are going to drown in that sand. DD
Yes, it is your hatred. You are discounting the possibility he is innocent entirely. You aren't seeking the truth, you are seeking his conviction. 1) I'm not defending Roger's innocence and my head isn't in the sand. 2) Andy didn't say what McNamme claimed was 100% true actually. 3) The evidence that was submitted by his trainer is completely unreliable. 4) Roger submitting DNA would do what exactly? 5) Does anyone else find it hilarious that when Bonds was accused people set out a list of things they wanted him to do if he was innocent? Now Roger does all those things and it still doesn't matter.
Ok, all we want to know is if he cheated. With regards to what McNamee said about Andy it was cooberated. Unreliable as to be submitted in a court of law, but in the court of public opinion it sure looks like a smoking gun. Allow people to test the evidence. But he is doing them HALF assed, he is skirting the issues, and not answering the tough questions directly...it all seems contrived to protect him...but not really answer directly. You know, what a savvy guilty guy does. DD
duck that TOO??? look, you can believe whatever you want. but roger is ducking nothing here. he's gone much further than most of you ever thought he would. he's set himself up for perjury if he's lying after all i heard here for weeks was that he'd take the 5th.
DD -- you know we could dig up at least a half dozen posts here which indicate you've not only made up your mind, but you've made it up strongly. please stop pretending you're just seeking the truth. As I said..there is nothing Roger could do to convince you otherwise. Even if McNamee came out now and admitted he was lying, you'd say he was paid off.
Unlike your dumbass ex-cop's story about Clemens, there were eyewitnesses for this case, regardless of whether or not the girl pressed charges. Eyewitnesses--because he did it in a pool. At a hotel. In front of God and everybody. What an ingrate.
