This season we'll find out if this is true. Last year the team was indeed 12-4 talent assuming Schaub had stayed healthy. But last season's schedule was an absolute joke. Our division still sucks this year, but we play a 1st place schedule and Indy/Tenn/Jax have all improved. All the more reason to wait and see if Smihiak really did assemble 12-4 talent or were they just beneficiaries of a cupcake schedule.
(Based on 2011 records): # of games v. playoff teams: 2011: 5 2012: 5 # 0f games v. teams with 9+ wins: 2011: 7 2012: 6 # 0f games v. teams in draft's top 10: 2011: 8 2012: 7 Amazing how it's always something, isn't it? Overflowing "Yeah, but..."s. I guess "easy schedule" is the latest one. OK; have at it. Keep talking about a "first place schedule," which hasn't existed since 2001...
I would really like to see if they can get to the playoffs with Schaub healthy. If Schaub gets injured again this year, he is gone, I would expect Kubiak to go with him.
Depends on how bad they get. If they lose Shaub early in the year and go 7-9 Kubiak will probably get another year. After last season I think it would take two losing years in a row for Kubiak to get fired.
We know Schaub is going to be gone if he gets injured again. He is a FA after this year, so no way we re-sign him if he really does prove to be "injury-plauged". If we don't re-sign Schaub, do we really want try to start fresh with Kubiak and a new QB? I would want to give Kubiak the chance, but I doubt the majority of Texans fans would. Especially after Kubiak/Smith passed on Manning because of their faith in Schaub. It seems like it would be time to turn a new leaf if that scenario happens.
First of all: who the frick cares what the majority of Texan fans want? Do you think that's going to even remotely enter into their discussion? Secondly, I'm begging you - all of you - to let the Manning thing go. I can't endure 16 weeks of. "MANNING, MANNING, MANNING..." If Schaub is hurt again, I would agree - he's probably gone. Kubiak isn't going anywhere, though.
The Texans didn't pass on Manning. Manning signed an enormous contract with Denver. Houston never had a chance to even play in that kind of financial league.
1) Bob McNair. Yes. 2) I was never on the Manning bandwagon, so you do not have to ask me to stop. If Schaub gets hurt...you are going to hear it. 3) There is no "probably" if Schaub gets injured again. He will be replaced. You act like Kubiak and Schaub are not somewhat tied at the hip. You are wrong. I am and always have been one of Kubiak's biggest supporters. I think it is a mistake to extend him before we see what happens this season.
Yes, things would have had to be done to get him that type of money. Ultimately, the Texans didn't feel it was worth the risk, and already have their starting QB. I agree with them. However, if Schaub does not work out, who is to blame? We just keep the same regime and try a new QB?....not gonna happen.
1) I said Texans fans...not Texas fans. Bob McNair decides on the FO personnel. He then trusts his Coach/GM to decide on the players. I see what point you were trying to make, but they are completely different situations. 3) Care to explain? If we do not re-sign Schaub...do we give Gary another 4 years with a different QB? Like I said, they are somewhat tied at the hip.
I really dont see how you think I am trolling. My whole point is that it is silly to lock up Gary Kubiak /Rick Smith before we even start the season. Should we go ahead and extend Schaub's contract while we are at it...ala Mark Sanchez? We need them all to have that security so that they can perform at their jobs right?
I don't disagree that they should avoid extending Smithiak. However, arguing that Peyton could have come here for the deal he got in Denver is simply trolling.
This regime has consistently ignored fan consensus, almost literally from day 1: extending Carr; Mario over Bush/Baby Vince; not firing Gary after '10; hiring Wade after '10... and those are just the off-the-top-of-my-head headlines. They'll do what *they* think is best for the franchise, fans be damned. You, collectively. And yeah, I know. I'm already dreading it. But FYI - you certainly don't help by even suggesting Manning was throwing himself at the Texans and they passed. They had no money and he signed a mega-ginormous contract. He was never going to be a Texan. You don't fire your coach if your starting QB flames out; that's patently ridiculous and makes no sense. Especially when you consider he plucked Schaub from a bench and sent him to Hawaii - you're going to assume it was a fluke and not give him the opportunity to do it again? And, man oh man - can fans be stubborn. I've never seen a group so universally reluctant to evolve. They draw a conclusion ONCE and... no matter what, "Goshdarnittoheck, that's what I think!!" Do you even know that Schaub started 46 consecutive games prior to an absolutely freak injury last year? That's very nearly 3 full seasons of health. If he makes a full recovery this summer, there's absolutely no reason to assume he'll get hurt again. That's 2008 talking.
This is something else you (collectively) need to stop doing: comparing coaches to players. Please go read Joe Joe's perfectly awesome post outling why it's so silly.
This extention tells me .. . Kubiak and Schaub are not tied at the hip. If Schaub gets injured again . . . dependent on the injury of course if it is another 'freak accident' . . then he will be extended too. just not for as much but . . .with an extention .. I would expect Kubiak to be here longer than Schaub Rocket River
