McNair manages to screw up era #3 and I may finally write off this franchise. I've attended the vast majority of the home games since Game 1, but I'm not going to put up much longer with a clueless owner, especially if he starts pulling a Drayton. I'm only but so willing to be pissed on year in and year out. It's not like I grew up on these guys.
WTF? This guy is insane if he is "not too interested in Cohwer". There have been boatloads of people who have sunk $10,000+ into tickets and other Texans crap. The list the guy could do is say "he may be an option". Hopefully this is part of his hustling technique. BTW, he should have fired Cappers after the thrid season and Casserly after he made that horribly Tony Bosselli deal.
McNair is stupid. If he's able to blow money on bust free agents and draft picks, why can't he give $ to a proven head coach?
I actually don't really see Cowher as a football x's and o's genius or anything the way some guys (Shanahan, Holmgren etc) are thought of. Maybe that is just perception, I don't know. I think it actually is a fairly legitimate question whether he is worth big $$$ - Pittsburgh seems to be a pretty similar team no matter who is at the helm (Noll, Cowher, Tomlin) - who knows to what degree Cowher was responsible for, or the beneficiary of, that effect.
Pittsburgh missed the playoffs in 6 of the final 7 seasons with Noll and had 4 losing records in that period (their best record was 9-7). In Cowher's first year, they went 11-5 and then made the playoffs for 6 consecutive years, finishing with double-digit wins in 5 of those 6 years.
It's one of those stupid things that got repeated enough that everyone just believes it as fact, despite all the evidence being to the contrary.
Yep. Charlie P had a great smackdown last night of some caller who mentioned this issue. The idea that firing your coach and changing up the system means you start over is crazy. And where did the 3 year number come from anyway? It takes one draft to transition to a 3-4. You hit on your picks and sign a solid FA and bam, you're done.
Exactly. I see no reason why Cowher wouldn't be the #1 choice. That said, Holgrem has an equally impressive record of turning around teams. The Packers had just 2 winning seasons in the 19 years before Mike took over that squad, and had only won double digit games 1 time since 1972, and the Seahawks made the playoffs his first year as coach, despite having not done so in the previous 10 years. The interesting thing about both Cowher and Holgrem is that while they both took over "storied" franchise with long histories of success, neither club had been any good for a considerable number of years before the coaches arrived. My preference would be Cowher, but Holgrem would be okay, too.
True but they were actually not that bad before him, they were 9-7, 9-7, 7-9, before Noll retired, with mostly younger teams.
As conservative as Mcnair is it wouldnt surprise me at all if the Texans even went 7-9 that he would give Kubiak one more year. Games were close blah blah blah, we played the Colts tough both games blah blah blah. Moral victories seem to be satisfying to him. Hear the same b.s every year.
