I have to say this trade would make a lot of sense for Oakland, especially if they don't have to give up Asomugha. Oakland is obviously not a great team, but in a league where there is probably more parity than any professional sports league, making a trade for a good quarterback could do wonders for them, especially considering that they have the makings of what could be a good defense(though they weren't that great this past year). Oakland was kind of a giant slayer this past year in that they were able to beat some good teams like Philly, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, so I think having a quarterback like McNabb could help quite a bit, it not for just the fact that he isn't JaMarcus Russell.
Makes sense for both teams. McNabb's window in Philly is closed and maybe best for both sides to split. I really wanna see what Kolb could do with a full season. Oakland needs to cut their losses and bring in a real QB, they are not going to win anything with Russell at the helm. They have decent weapons on the offensive side of the ball, they need a QB that can put it all together. Bad deal if they give up Asomugha.
McNabb is not gonna solve the problem of Oakland's receivers having brick hands. Giving up picks and Namdi for McNabb would be dumb, but i guess they would not be any worse off than they already are
What I hope happens. McNabb to Raiders. Nmadi to Eagles. Kolb to start. Raiders make the playoffs. Favre retires. Donovan says peace out and goes to Vikings. Donovan gets his Superbowl Ring. Eagles own the NFC for the next 10 years.
I think the most successful NFL quarterback have brains that are particularly attuned to pattern recognition. I think you can train and improve the skill with film work but the neural network needs to there in the first place. I'd bet that the better the quarterback the better he is at certain video games too. If I were going to invest $40 million dollars in a quarterback I'd want some way of testing his mental capabilities.
Growing up, I picked the Eagles as my "NFC" team since it didn't feel like I was cheating on the Oilers. Then when the Oilers left, I went all-in on the Eagles, and McNabb became my favorite player from draft day on. Enter the Texans (new favorite team; for obvious reasons). And then enter Kevin Kolb (new favorite player; for obvious reasons). So, I'd like to see them both succeed.
Why would you go as far as dealing Asomghua when a deal with 2nd round picks could get the job done? Stupid if he gets traded.
Well heck, I didn't know you had some Eagle fandom in you. So do you agree with me that the Eagle fans have been crazy stupid about him since draft day?
Oh god yes. If there's one thing I can't stand about the Eagles, it's their fans. They are the most spoiled brats in all of professional sports. But at least they care... I guess.
I'm a little surprised the Eagles are so ready to dump McNabb, given how explosive that passing attack was last year. Kolb showed he wasn't close to ready, IMO. Maybe they think Clausen can step in and go.....but I still find all of this to be shaky from their side. You've lost Westbrook, and I can't see at all how your offense stays above average after this. Works well for Oakland - you suck in the draft anyway, so why not bring in your first decent QB in over a decade. Put together a single winning season so your fans get roped back in. McNabb probably won't stay, but you've got the lockout year coming to help everyone forget. Entire league will be rebooted. As opposed to the Boston, NY, and LA based teams?
Favre is just leaving the Vikings hanging again... There is a rumor here in MN that Rosenfels might be traded to the Raiders and the Vikings draft a QB to be the third string behind Favre / McNabb and Tavares Jackson.
I think it's gotten to the point where Kolb is better in the short and long-term for Philly, and if you add Nnamdi to that team ... The Raiders really should be asking for a good young QB like Kolb for Nnamdi if they are going to trade him, not an older guy that is past his prime. Huh? He started two games and performed pretty well considering his limited experience. 300+ yds and over 60% completion.
Kolb looked pretty good in McNabb's absence. As far as Nnamdi is concerned, I've said it before... he deserves better than Oakland. He's one of my favorite players ever and I would love to see him go to a winning football team.
Moving McNabb may also be a money move for the Eagles. Not have to pay him in 2011 and beyond, while being able to remain competitive with Kolb/Vick. It makes a little sense. Though very risky. McNabb does make the Raiders a bit more competitive, possibly to playoff contention. People do not realize how a competent QB can greatly improve a team's chances of winning. I'd say that the Raiders would be slightly better than the Dolphins (given the change at QB). Which is about an 8-8 to 9-7 team (possibly 10-6 with a lot of luck)? I'd imagine with a few upgrades in the OL and receiver that the team could actually become a solid playoff contender.
