    as opposed to starting dmo?

why not come out smash mouth from outset?

I agree with the gist of it doesnt matter if 'start' or not since I feel same about minutes in the lin vs. bev argument. you dont have to start bev to get him minutes and same with asik I get it.

I m saying we dont have to start necessarily but we should go strong asik and howard. I'm also saying since the options of 'starting' are smith dmo or jones I say you have to start asik on that account alone by itself. Plus the fact that asik is damn good. That is getting lost here in this conversation not with you per se but dammit asik is GOOD!

Some hacks opinion just like me and you are internet message monkeys. No hard feelings and one of us gets to be right. I hope I am because the idea of twin towers nastiness makes me pretty excited.

in that case, one of the 2 better learn to shoot 15-18 footers.

Another positive thing about this that I don't think we've touch base with is the other team's defense.

Imagine trying to defend the top 2 best centers right now. Who can stop them? (not Miami or anyone else. They have Lebron and Bosh. What's Bosh going to do). If defending a stretch 4 is our problem. It's also their problem defending two big centers. Muscle and power mass. They can probably try and shoot 3-s but they would be flat-out tired running a fast paced game with the Rockets and trying to stop and box out 1 on 1 Asik or Howard.

Dwight gets 32 minutes of start time, so asik gets 16 as the only center. Leaving 14 minutes of twin towers. That is doable, especially against traditional pfs like Randolph.

Personally i think the target goal is more around 26 minutes. Much more doable, and only 10 minutes of twin towers.

When Jason Terry or Manu come off the bench they are better than those players that are starting in front of them. So being good or not has nothing to do with what I am saying. We also need to have a strong bench in order for us to be contenders. Asik and Bev would be lethal IMO coming off the bench.

LOL They will not get layups, dunks and alley hoops all the time. Have you played basketball before. If so you know that the probability is not high. One of them has to be able to knock down that open shot when teams dare them to shoot. It's call keeping the opposing team honest. **** will open up the offense tremendously.

fair point and bev (6th man of year defensive stopper) garcia and casspi are part of our 2nd unit nastiness too. We can play asik off bench too. Not a problem.

I'm saying some heavy logged minutes of twin towers.

morey has built a team of interchangeable weapons. We come at you with harden and howard and then we stuff your throat with parsons lin asik bev etc

    I love it

To "get Omer to stay"? Where do you think he is going? He is under contract and it is in his best interest to play hard, and he always has, so I don't think they are doing this to get Omer to stay.

They are doing this because Omer is their 3rd or 4th best player and the Rockets want to see if they can maximize the minutes of their best players.

I personally do not think it will work, I think the Rockets will either have to live with 20 minutes a night of Omer or move him. I was all for moving him for a power forward but he makes such a huge difference inside defensively and rebounding the basketball, I think it would be very nice to have 48 minutes a game of Howard/Omer at the 5, which essentially ensures the Rockets have the best defender and rebounder on the floor at all times.

If I am moving Omer (a premium position), I am getting someone that is pretty damn good, not Jeff Green or some of the other names I have heard floated.

you guy make it sound like curley and moe are playing. like these guys are turds.. its unreal. You would have us believe its 2 left feet bumbling fools. Asik is good !!!

asik is better than anything dmo and jones give us. Jones is raw and Im sorry but he's not ready.

    Neither is dmo really.

We play asik and we play howard. at times we play them both when we want to be really nasty. Why is that so bad?

now you are are trying to talk shi**t when guess what one of us gets to be wrong.

Fine.. write it down and in a few weeks you can feel good about being right or I can say stupid things to you like ' have you played bb before'

This is from an article just posted by ROXTXIA. But I get your drift.

Asik is a poor offensive player, and Howard, despite his attempts to improve, remains a poor shooter outside the paint. At the free throw line, these two have the chance to be one of the most atrocious tandems in league history. Last regular season alone, the two combined to miss 497 free throws. Playing them together at the end of a close game is inviting ruin.

Seemed to work fine when we were starting Greg Smith for a while last year, and Greg Smith can't hit mid-range jumpers. So no, one of them doesn't have to be able to knock down the open shot. It will likely work out just fine.

No dont read into it like that..It was just a simple question. Reason being, if you played before you would know exactly what im talking about.

This is all opinionated and that's it pimpn. I don't ever claim to be right on a debate or a little sports talk. You stated valid points and so have a lot of people on here.

If you ask me if I played BB before I would either say yes or no. I wouldnt get offended by a question like that. I wouldn't call that question stupid either. So no need to get personal on a sports forum. Its not that serious.

And McHale quickly went back to playing Delfino at the 4.

But Greg Smith isn't the defensive player that Dwight and Omer are.

I say go with the early sub: Asik for D-mo. That way the coaches can get an early handle on if the twin towers will work against the particular opposing team. Minutes can vary: at least 8 most nights (1st and third quarters) and maybe a lot more depending on how it's working.

    IBTL,

I'm siding with Coach. If he puts them in, then I trust his plan. I don't think there is very much historical record to say this will not work for certain.

But we do have historical record that says Stretch 4s are NOT going to be an automatic way to beat our defense.
