McHale is getting paid in a state with no income tax and doesn't have to show up to work. He loses that if he signs on for another coaching gig. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Les telling the Rockets to float the McHale rumors & hope a team offers him a contract. McHale's contract doesn't impact the Rockets ability to spend. It's just one less brownstone in NY per year he can buy to flip on the market.
