Are we so bad defensively because of poor effort or do we just not understand the concepts of NBA defenses? You would think for a guy who was selected to 7 All-NBA Defensive teams like McHale was, he would be able to communicate and teach defense better.

I still can not believe Parsons was the one who was trying to defend Lillard...I mean Parsons isn't a bad defender, BUT THAT'S LILLARD!!! He can get free at will against Parsons. He's too fast for him! The worst thing is to put a much slower player on a fast player at the end when you do not want to give up a 3. Even Lillard knew he could blow pass him...So frustrating...Before that shot even happened I told my cousin that Parsons can't guard Lillard because he's too fast for him, and yet that still happened. It troubles me that this coach could not see something as simple as that.

WHY LIN IS ON THE COURT FOR THE LAST SHOT???
Lin has been holding Lillard scoreless the entire 4th quarter then rode the bench on the biggest play of the season?? COME ON, Mchale….

I remember he kept Daniel in the line up defending the lead and the last Portland's possession at the end of game four. It was immediately after Daniel hitting the big three and after the time out. I was thinking what the #%%^*, why not sub in a more experienced and proven defender? Such ineptitude is just mind boggling.

Lillard hit those clutch shots from the same spot a few times during regular season.
As a Head Coach, he should know that and plan ahead for it, alas, it wasn't the case! And we got killed big time.

There are only TWO Rockets that should have been in Lillard's vicinity for switching purposes and they are Beverely and Lin. This is so ****ing obvious that a damn middle schooler who follows basketball casually would figure as common sense.

Don't think I ever piled up on McHale during the season, what kind of defensive sscheme was that? 2 points cannot beat you, but a 3 can, and we let Lillard get wide open for a 3 with less than 1 second left????

It was a great shot, and Lillard is world's better than Bev and Lin, but this is on McHale for not preparing the players better.

Someone should have asked McHale why he thinks Parsons is a good enough defender to defend guards.

I think it's worse than him being clueless. He is covering for his players ignoring his call (ie Harden calling for the switch). Much worse. His players don't respond to him so he must go.

Stop hating because Lin has actually been defending well this series. It was stupid to have Parsons on Lillard because Parsons has shown that he doesn't have the quickness to guard fast guards. Despite being taller and having length, he doesn't have the speed to keep up with them and has always been abused by PGs.

It was also stupid to put Harden in. Give Harden credit for actually playing good defense, but he's not a quick defender to run and chase guys, especially when everyone knows the play has to be a quick catch and shoot. Stupid move by McHale.

Terrible defensive fundamentals by our entire team, too. It's always a good idea to put a man on the inbounder, but Jones' angle was too much towards the basket. He needs more awareness that the only Blazer that his angle was defending was Aldridge, who was covered up by Dwight, and he's inside the paint so you can live with him getting off a game-tying shot over Dwight. Jones needed to be flatter towards the 3-point line to not give up any game winner.

Our players also should have been fronting the Blazers, being between them and the ball to force a cross-court lob pass in the corner. Instead, they played behind them and allowed a clear path for them to go towards the inbounder. Dwight clearly know to front Aldridge, but Harden, Beverley, and Parsons didn't.

Here's to hoping we get a new coach, and a staff that knows how to teach defense. Our players are still young and they can still learn to correct their fundamental defensive problems.

That was fckng terrible defensive job at the end. If someone inbound the ball from the other side of the court....shouldn't you as a defender front your man and not to stay behind him? You should be worry about guarding between the ball and your man. With .9 sec left, Batum is not going to risk throwing a long pass to the other side of the court. So why do the stupid stand where you're pretend to be behind the man and following where ever he run ? That's not smart defensive scheme...especially with .9 sec left. And you don't need Jones to guard the inbound man...this shyt is fcking coach fault. We need to fire him and get a coach that know how to defend...i am sick of seeing this happened again and again.
