I'm sure he's very worried about "LOHs" on a fan site.

Why does Lin care about LOH? I doubt he even gets bother by them. (and again, there are a very few actual LOHs, most of the people that are considered that just hate the LOF, HUGE difference)

I would be worried too, he's one of the rare players that have people that love and hate him. It's hard to deal with that

There's really only one LoH on this forum, starts with a k or something.

As for Lin himself, considering the hit squad that new york sent out for him, i can't imagine it bothers him too much otherwise.

This is a compromise from Rockets' 7-game losing streak. And it is slowly regressing back to the first quarter 7-minute PG during the last few games. The coach wants every player to do everything so it's hard for him to hold them responsible or blame them for being careless.

Well I don't mean like totally rogue, just a little. And then if and when it's obvious it's helping the team, then McHale will be more on board.

He should probably just do what his coach tells him to...

Where did these numbers come from? Did they even track usage during Magics playing days?

Hi Bobby. Did we "Overchieve" against the Bucks? In your opinion why did we lose?

40th amongst PGs in usage rate

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/pg/sort/usageRate

Tony Douglas, who only averaged 18.5 minutes, has almost the same usage rate as Lin.

    "USG: Usage Rate - the number of possessions a player uses per 40 minutes. Usage Rate = {[FGA + (FT Att. x 0.44) + (Ast x 0.33) + TO] x 40 x League Pace} divided by (Minutes x Team Pace)" http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/pg/sort/turnoverRatio

Someone's getting confused by the word "usage." "Usage" does not show how much a coach or a team uses a player, or how much the team relies on the player. Usage measures field goal attempts, free throw attempts, assists, and turnovers. It does not reflect blocks, for example, or steals, or screens; in other words, it's just another limited stat.

    1) The coach cannot greatly influence whether someone gets to the free throw line for FTA. He also cannot greatly control whether someone shoots too many FGA or passes up FGA.

    2) The coach cannot really make someone low-efficiency or high-efficiency in assists/turnovers. It is possible that a guy handles the ball a lot and gets low assists or turnovers. "Usage" will not show that. "Usage" assumes the same rate of turnovers and assists for everyone. If someone has very low turnovers, his usage rating goes DOWN.

It's not the case that higher usage ratings are better. This is a very crude statistic that assumes the same rate of assists, turnovers, shots, and free throws for everyone.

On the year the team is still overachieving, does that mean they'll play well every game? No. They lost the Bucks game for several reasons. Delfino going 1-6 from 3 point range didn't help, the Rockets missing 9 FT's didn't help, Lin shooting 4-11 didn't help, Harden turning the ball over 7 times didn't help, Parsons turning the ball over 5 times didn't help, and the failure to secure the rebound in the final seconds didn't help. Put all of those things together and you get a loss. Personally I question the decision to go small with Delfino rather than DMo in the final seconds since they needed a rebound, but there's no way of knowing if that would have made any difference at all. The loss was a team effort.

I'd rather McHale STFU then talk at this point... I want to see the rockets win! Let Sampson do all the talking McHale should silently work with post players on the other side of the court.

Lin's usage is 40th highest among qualified point guards.
Lin's turnovers are 8th highest. These push his usage rating up.
Lin's assists are 26th highest. These push his usage rating up.
Lin's true shooting % is 40th highest. This matches his usage rating.
Lin's team's pace is 1st. This pulls his usage rating down.

So, Lin's TS% rank exactly matches his usage rank among qualified point guards. His turnovers and assists tend to increase his usage rank, his team pace tends to decrease it. It's a formula. Look at the formula.

You used the data misleadingly/incorrectly by looking at career stats (lots of variables, including extremely low usage rate first few years, play style across different decades etc etc etc.), instead of looking at usage rate among current pgs this year. You got stuffed by l4z4rd, take it like a man. Coming back with this counter argument?? What are you, a 10 year old spoil little brat? Lame.

All of the players I listed had consistent usage rates throughout their entire careers and they are largely considered the greatest PG's ever to play, they managed, so can Lin. It's a stupid argument, no PG is going to have a high usage rate on the same team as a superstar player unless they are a ball hog.

So you are saying, the 39 other players above Lin are all Hof type PGs? Dude, how about this, maybe nba teams are just playing much faster with higher possessions per game than in the past? and maybe just maybe as a result higher usage rate across the board for pgs? geeez.
