I am fine with the Rockets firing Mchale, but what's the backup plan. At the earliest, we can't let him go until the end of the season. Even then, who do we replace him with? Who are the candidates. It's easy to stamp our feet and wave around torches and pitchforks, but we HAVE TO HAVE a backup plan.
Don't know if it's already been said, but I always know that if we are in comeback mode, and the guys on the floor make a run, NO MATTER WHAT, after that he will never make a substitution unless he is forced to by injury or someone fouling out. He has no clue that guys can't keep up that pace or wear themselves out doing the comeback. I will never forget that game where we were coming back and he refused to put Harden back in. Just INSANITY.
Why doesn't Houston trap more? They have the wirey defensive personnel to do it. And now with KJ McDaniels? It would be borderline negligent not to add that in more. I like McHale, but he has to show me something this second half. If he doesn't, then it's safe to call him a figurehead coach.
There is absolutely no reason Papa and Johnson do not get any PT from here on out. Bev is atrocious and Ariza keeps bricking away everything. Ariza needs to be playing about 30-35 minutes at this point and Bev 25-30. We will be lucky to win 6 games as playing like this come playoff time.
I was fine letting DMo go as well. Point guard was, quite obviously, our weakest link. The upgrade from Bev to whoever was worth the dropoff from DMo to Jones, especially with Josh Smith off the bench at the PF position, as well. I obviously can't say who all we could have gotten, but surely we could have grabbed somebody. There were many point guards who got moved, and probably many who were talked about and stayed put. If Morey didn't find a deal he liked, I can totally respect that, but we are approaching a point where he needs to account for the glaring weaknesses on the team instead of just opting for the best value deal all the time. The Rockets are the only team in the Western playoff picture who have a true glaring weakness at a certain position that I can think of, and with Dwight's uncertainty, that's something he really needs to get figured out for us to have a shot.
McHale BEST coach in Rockets history by winning % He's not going anywhere anytime soon, maybe AFTER next season There's also the gripe of the roster being flawed. That is on Daryl Morey So which is it: Is McHale actually bringing down the roster Is the roster winning in SPITE of McHale Or is the roster actually just "what it is" and want a coach to make it OVERachieve? What would the backup plan to McHale be? That to me is most important (I'm posting this because every single coach the Rockets had the past 20 years have had similar gripes about them)
We have picks, including what will most likely be a mid to low lottery pick in the Pelicans pick. Other teams simply either had more picks to give or better picks. Here are our assets (they are also our starters and bench) before the trade: - D-Mo - Ariza - Beverley - Brewer - Terry - KPapa - Canaan - Dorsey - Smith - Howard - Pelican pick - I think NY 2nd round pick? What combination of the above would YOU have been willing to cough up and for who? Are you bringing in other teams?
We hoped he could have grabbed someone, but if he could have without losing half our bench (aka the Rondo trade) I am sure he would have. Personally, I feel like he couldn't bring himself to deal D-Mo due to the uncertainty of Dwight's injury and future.
Some of you people are amazing. How is it McHales fault that Dwight is hurt and we've had to cobble together a paint defense? How is it McHales fault that Harden is the only reliable ball handler on this team?
We could have trade Papa, Shved, Bev, Capella, Dorsey and a 1st rounder and even those second rounders given for Prigs for Brook Lopez, and then traded Terry straight up for Jarratt Jack. J. Jack/Canaan/Johnson Harden/ Ariza/Brewer DMo/Smith/Jones Howard/Lopez After they will fill out the roster with minimum guys that are bought out. We would be a much better team and BKN would have been happy to do it.
I do not disagree with you there. Just to play Devil's Advocate: The uncertainty of his future was probably a good reason to make moves for the present, though. Either way, it's done and this is the team going forward. We'll see what happens and hopefully Beverley can find his form again.
Maybe after doing these trades, BKN even does us one for helping them by buying out DWill. Then we would have: D. Will/J.Jack/Canaan Harden/Johnson Ariza/Brewer Dmo/Smith/Jones Howard/Lopez We could really compete for the Championship THIS YEAR with this team. Especially if we were to pick up someone before March 1st like a R. Allen. But of course, those trade might ruin out FLEXIBILITY for the Durant sweepstakes!
Papa is the only one that I believe has any current value in what you just mentioned and I am probably overrating him being a Rockets fan. Bev is playing like trash. Shved and Dorsey ARE trash. Capella is unproven. The only pick we have of value is the Pelican's one. What incentive does Nets have to pull this trade? JET for Jack, again the question is WHY? As for minimum players to fill out the roster, what players are those? Who can we sign at this point to replace all those players?
You talk a big game, but again why the hell would Nets do this outside of buying out D-Will? This is NOT a video game where you just push a button to override trades.
So it wasn't clear? Bev, Shved, Terry and Papa are all essentially EXPIRING contracts if BKN wants to let them all go. Only Dorsey (1 more year at $900k) and Capella and future project at 1 million would still be on the books next year. They would save 25 million next year. They are trying to sell the team, not win. They maybe even take less if they had exceptions or the trade works with fewer players, so that they can try to save some tax this year also.
BTW - remember Les NEVER fires coaches he just let's their contract expire and does not offer them a new one. Rudy T JVG Adelman DD
