JVG would be a total regression for the offensive scheme. I remember him saying about having a superstar on the team, that you have to "feed him the basketball until he drops(from exhaustion I suppose)". I wish we had someone who would install a creative offensive system that utilizes each players unique skill/talents and someone who held players accountable ala Pop by benching them; even if they are the best players on the team.
Of course there's no silver bullet. But there are lots of little things the Rockets aren't doing. They running under the picks which obviously isn't working. Why not change that? Terry can't guard Redick to save his life. Why not have Harden or Ariza on him and put Terry on Barnes who's been quiet since Game 1 and is by far the weakest offensive player in the Clippers starting lineup outside of DeAndre? Why are the Rockets not running back in transition? Shouldn't McHale be harping on his guys to run back every time? If they're still not listening, call a damn timeout and correct it! Why is Austin Rivers getting into the lane at will? Can no player on the Rockets stay in front of his man or at least make him drive toward his weak hand? Why are the Rockets not blocking out when Dwight goes up to challenge a shot? I don't blame McHale for players bricking layups and floaters in the lane or going ice cold from downtown. But all the aforementioned things are issues he and his staff need to address. They're not going to magically fix themselves as the series wears on. I know we've joked in the past about McHale's style of coaching consisting of rolling the ball out there just letting the players play. But it's looking like that really is his approach to this series. His closing remarks at the postgame press conference the other night were scary. He doesn't seriously believe the Game 3 loss just came down to a loss of momentum, does he?
Too bad finding a coach that can simultaneously command the respect of his players, produce top-notch offensive & defensive sets, sub correctly, and manage the flow of the game is like asking asking for a functional Congress. Instead we have Mchale who can make jokes and convince his players he's not a terrible coach because he was a HOF player. Amazing.
If you look at smart coaches, they call a time out immediately if they feel the momentum is changing. We basically went from down 3, to down double digits without any time outs. as soon as it hits 8 point deficit you call a time out to bring the noise down and make adjustments, get an easy bucket and try to bring the deficit down again. That's where McHale lacks in coaching. He is too laid back at times, and just expects the players to weather the storm and figure it out. He is playing the best he has, as far as Nick playing, well Terry was hitting 3's I don't see why he has to sit. Our catalyst in every game is really T Jones, whenever he plays well we win, just look at the numbers. If he doesn't play well we lose, for whatever reason he is the one that makes a difference.
McHale on JJ Reddick halftime of game 3 "if he hits those shots then so be it". That pretty much sums up our defensive game plan
Nobody should be shocked. We saw this last year with Aldridge. It takes McHale's staff 2-3 games to make adjustments that other teams can make in a half. It has always been a problem and it will always be a problem. Anthony Carter wasn't making that **** up.
Yes JVG isn't the best by any means, but who is potentially available to implement a successful system along with additional talent?
oh my &$&&9ing lord. Chris Baldwin is a polyp that keeps growing back after being snipped. What a complete cancer clickbait troll of a local sports writer. I think I honestly hate him more than Matt Barnes and Josh Howard and Derek Fisher all combined. You are a polyp Chris Baldwin. move to LA already.
Smart. That'll net them a flagrant two with whomever doing the punching getting ejected along with a one game suspension.
