maybe they'll give it to mcgrady saying that he's doing all this without yao. but then again, it seems that more and more, people are expecting the rockets to win despite yao's injury. tmac has just been that good. if tmac does win, i hope it doesnt get yao down. he was apparently feeling pretty crappy when the team was winning a lot with deke in the middle.
Im not sure where you get that from, but I would doubt its truthfulness for the simple reason that it is well established Yao is the ultimate team-first guy and as long as we are winning during his layoff, he has to be pleased. If he is down about anything, I would think it would be because he can't get out there and help the team. That is a FAR more logical thought with everything we factually know about Yao Ming.
I totally I agree. I haven't come across any in the media about Yao feeling down that the Rockets have been succeeding without him......this ain't the Eagles and Yao's mom ain't writin no blog.....
from pryuen in the yao rehabilitation thread: i think that's where he gets the "yao was down" from. anyway rockets2k is right, i'm sure he's happy with the rockets' success even without him, this is more of a "what can i do better to help the team continue to play well, when i get back." seems perferctly natural.
yeah, well from the "yao was feeling shameful" part of the article, i kinda deduced that he was down. but its up for interpretation i guess. either way, i wasn't making stuff up, just to clarify
Mac had too many rough games to begin the season so he's really out of the MVP race already ... the media already has this thing down to a three player race between Nash/Dirk/Kobe ... more importantly we should want to get both Yao and Mac on the All-NBA first team ... that would be awesome if mac can beat out kobe .. he's have to pull up his avg to about 26ppm and we'd have to win over 55 games... that's what I'd like to see
He has to be top-5 in the league now...he's been the most impressive player in the league since Yao went down, the guy has been nothing short of sensational from an individual standpoint AND has led his team to an improbable record that no one in their right mind thought was going to happen without possibly -- up to that point -- the MVP of the league in Yao Ming. I just hope he holds up and continues to be healthy through the playoffs...the mere thought of him and Yao playing at an elite level gives me chills. Go Rockets!
Tmac's averages for January: 29.4 ppg/ 6.9 assists/ 5.8 rebounds 47 percent shooting those are some pretty sick numbers.
I wanted to guage McGrady's numbers this month compared to what he's done in his previous months with the Rockets. I used a per minute version of Hollinger's "Game Score" stat: GS = 40 * [ pts + .4*fgm - .7*fga - .4*(fta-ftm) + .7*orb + .3*drb + .7*ast + stl + .7*blk - tov - .4*pf ] / min And here's a pretty graph: Based on this metric, it's by far his best month as a Rocket by the numbers.
Gilbert Arenas also had a rough start to the season, yet he's right in the middle of the MVP race. It's mindboggling to me how the media is overlooking the Rockets right now. I realize what Dallas and Phoenix are doing is overshadowing every other team, but they're 2 games out of the 3rd best record in the league without their MVP caliber center. Then again, maybe it's for the best that nobody pay attention to them til the playoffs. That way they can sneak up on all the other alleged contenders.
I didn't say that he should win it, I said he has to be top 5. But I agree, the MVP has to be from the Suns or the Mavs this year...I think Dirk is going to win it this time around.
