Of course, if the deal goes through, no harm no foul. But, if it doesn't, it's a big deal for more than just the Rockets. This is particularly true if the deal drags on into July during the moratorium.

There will be quite a few free agents dangling in the wind who won't want to negotiate a deal with a team until they see how things pan out with McGrady and the Rockets won't have a good negotiating position with free agents either.

Early on in the free agency period is when guys get the most money. The longer it takes them to find a team, the less money they tend to earn. A lot of people will be effected by a delay.

Nevermind that the Rocckets won't really be able to negotiate any free agent deals or trades until this one comes to completion one way or the other. Imagine if the Rockets are still waiting on Orlando in late July and the Magic finally decide to go another direction. Then, we have about a month to move disgruntled players and patch up the image of our franchise.

I don't honestly think that is going to happen, but the very fact that the possibility exists makes this a precarious situation.

I've been meaning to correct you on this. Man did not evolve from modern monkeys or apes, but man, monkeys, and apes all evolved from a common ancestor who more or less looks like Jay London from Last Comic Standing. That is all...

    Jeff,

Perhaps, but I don't think Orlando gives a rats patootie about the Rockets position, only their own.

It may not be a gentlemanly thing to do, but it is a dog eat dog world in the NBA, and the Rocks would deal with them again if CD thought it would make the team better.

No bridge is ever truly burned.

not only that jeff, but orlando has a team to field as well.

They are going to want to know what holes to fill through free agency. Based on that thought alone, I would think this deal will be done on or before the 1st

I'm not saying they do or should. I'm saying that how they handle their business has ripple effects across the entire league and this isn't just about two teams trying to make a deal.

I concur, but again, I don't think they care about the rest of the league.

Just asking: do you know of any GMs who screwed their team and its rep so much that other teams avoided dealing with them at all costs? Krauss maybe?

    People still deal with him.

My point is that anyone will deal with anyone if they think it makes their team better.

That is what I think. GMs make deals to improve their own teams despite any pricks like Weisbrod. I am just wondering if there is any historical evidence to support what Jeff is saying. I can see teams refusing to help Weisbrod broker deals in the future--like refusing to be the third/fourth team that takes a small fee to use its cap space to facilitate a trade.

I can't see that happening, if they need Orlando, they would ask...there is no pride in a sports franchise...it is all about winning....unless you are the Clippers of course.

Did anyone catch Channel 2's interview with Grant Hill? I was able to catch the end, and Hill said: "Tracy wants to go to Houston, which is good for the fans of Houston."

On "Extra Points" they showed a snippet of a Grant Hill interview and he said he knew the deal is happening cause, as he quoted "a little birdie told me." He then went on about how TMac will fit well here and that sometimes players need change.

I just saw "extra points," but it didn't mention anything about T-Mac like Channel 2.

FYI, Hill is in Houston supporting an african-american art show that travels around the US. Its at TSU and Hill has arranged for many inner-city kids to visit the exhibit.

Its too bad that Hill has had his ankle problem for so long and it doesn't seem to be getting any better, but the guy has always been a class act.

This trade will happen. There is no way the Rockets can back out now. Steve will never be happy in Houston. If Steve is not traded to Orlando he the Rockets will find another place for him. The rockets have not been up front with Steve and the trust is gone.

I guessing that Steve went to Orlando to get the feel of there organization and to see if they would let him be himself. You got like Steve, Cat and D-Howard in the open court. Talk about your fast breaks! Steve will once again be his creative self with no constraints to hold him back (JVG).

That's easy to say, what big-time FAs has Chicago picked up lately? What big time stars have they traded for? When you're branded as an organization that no one can trust teams might deal with you, but not for the best deals. Players talk. Chicago's reputation cost them a chance to even TALK with Duncan, Eddie Jones, Tracy McGrady among others. And teams barely deal with Chicago for anything of significance, that is until Krauss was gone.

Agreed...if GMs actually looked at trades like fans did, no one would ever deal with Steinbrenner or Jerry Jones or Al Davis etc
