I think Steve's early comments is really the reason that caused snag. It seems that Magic actually wants Steve to stay.

I wonder what would happen if "rumors" starting going around about the Rockets possibly seaking other trades. A Hou-Indy trade rumor would really pressure Wisebrod to deal. PHO has already called his bluff, what if the other teams did too.

I don't know how long this guy thinks he can keep it up though. Teams are going to get fed up with this guy and say screw it.

Well, you dont want to be like you're Shopping Francis while TMac is really the prize. There's no need for tricks, I think the deal will be done very soon.

    Precisely!!!

Both Indy and PHX seem to understand that there IS a limit to how much is too much. Yet this Weisbrod is silently asking for me being the BROKER that he is. He's NOT your typical operations guy or GM. He's BROKER. If he had any real vision as to how to shape this team, the proposals from one of these three teams would be jumping right out him as a no brainer. Fact is, JW doesn't have a clue. He's juggling a more chainsaws than he can handle. Meanwhile, he's not doing ANYONE any favors, including the Orlando Magic by dancing around the matter as he has.

People also seem to forget who's the playoff contender and who's in "rebuilding" mode right now. This is ORLANDO we're talking about here. Orlando "Mismanaged" Magic Franchise. Big trades normally make for BIG POTENTIAL mistakes too. And it's great to see so many level-headed posters on this BBS start talking "risks" like team depth and chemistry than getting caught up in all the optimistic euphoria surrounding the McGrady sweepstakes. Yet, it's NOT a one sided sweepstakes here. Whether it be individually, or as a group, the three names out there in Cato, Francis and Mobes are about as valuable as they get in terms of trade value.

Not to be a pessimist, but LOTS of things can go wrong with this proposed deal. The more we assess the risks the better we can move forward with realistic expectations.

All this talk about Weisbrod, and the Rockets needing to put pressure on him by talking to other teams, is garbage. Can't you see? The deal is done! Give CD and Les some credit for once, if it weren't done, you know they'd be out shopping. The only thing that is going on right now is Weisbrod is posturing hoping that a third team will want to get involved and he can come out better with some other combination of players involving a 3rd team.......WHILE STILL SENDING MCGRADY TO HOUSTON BABY! I actually think Weisbrod is playing this thing up there with the best of them. He is stuck with Houston as a trading partner but he is still holding his chips in order to see if he can get as much as possible for TMac. I would expect that very soon those options will be exhausted and the deal will be announced.

Write it down. McGrady is coming to Houston. And Francis and Mobley are leaving Houston. The questions are:

    1. Where are Francis and Mobley going? (Probably Orlando)

    2. Who else is leaving Houston? (Probably Cato, maybe Boki, slim possibility that both go in this deal)

    3. What is Orlando getting? (Probably Francis, Cat, and Cato, with possibly a 3rd team getting Francis or Cat and sending Orlando another player such as Butler, etc.)

    4. Will a 3rd team get involved to the benefit of Orlando and possibly Houston? (Wouldn't it be great if Chicago got involved somehow and Hinrich wound up a Rocket?)

    Yao
    Howard
    JJ
    TMac
    Barry?

    Yao
    Howard
    Rashard or Vlad Rad
    TMac
    Barry?

    Yao
    KMart
    JJ
    TMac
    Barry?

    Yao
    Swift
    Rashard
    TMac
    Barry

The possibilities are endless. Welcome to Clutch City, TMac.

Orlando's best bet would to trade for Francis and Cato, package Mobley and Gooden to Miami for Caron Butler.

    Nelson
    Francis
    Butler
    D. Howard
    Cato

Bulls aren't trading Hinrich, probably not even for Francis. They think the world of the kid and think that him and Curry can do some damage next season. Unfortunately for Chicago, Hinrich-Curry-Gordon-Deng-Chandler is still a lottery team.

Guys, I think I understand the path that Weisbord is trying to take. We should not dog on his methods so hard, but he is definately taking added risks that might not pay off.

If the Magic take thier time and wait it out, it is possible the Rockets will grow increasingly frustrated and back out of the deal. If this happens, then Tracy will have to find other choices like Indiana and Phoenix, which gives the Magic more bargaining chips and options.

Although I think the Rox will remain pateint at this point and when the trade is finally done, Mr Weisbord will have lost the respect of all the parties involved in this trade.

Here is the situation in Poker terms:

The Magic have a 2 pair and the Rox have 3 kings. McGrady is sitting across the table and hinting to the Rox what the Magic have. Weisbord plays naive and pretends this is not going on while he continues to raise the stakes. The other players at the table have all folded and the Rox have now called the Magic. Its time to show the Cards and Weisbord is stalling.

    Clutch-

I recently contributed to the tip jar through paypal, but there were some problems with the credit card. It went through, but I am told that the contribution might be revoked, if it is, please let me know and I will re-contribute.

    Here's the situation...

Weisbrod is playing Strip Poker while Les came ready for some Texas Hold'em. Unfortunately Les came to play "showing all" with nothing but his summer britches on. Les has a straight flush on his hands right now with an eleven, twenty-one, thirteen, five, and three of hearts. However, Les forgets from time to time the good hands in Poker is now about to trade the three, five, and the thirteen for the king of Spades. Weisbrod, being the bluffer that he is, shows a little leg by dropping the king of spades on the floor. Les wants to bite but Weisbrod yanks the card back into his hand with the pull of a string. Yet despite it all, Les still hasn't figured out that Weisbrod has been toying with him all this time.

    Damn Weisbrod.

I grabbed these two lines in a Florida Today article online. The article says everything we have seen over and over agin about Francis talking to Weisass and giving his ok, but I like the sound of these two sentences. Sounds like a done deal to me.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

And contrary to several reports, Francis apparently won't be traded out of Orlando when the Magic-Rockets deal becomes official.

"It is our understanding that the Magic want Steve to be their starting point guard come opening night next season," said Jeff Fried, Francis' agent

Good, then send Nelson or Burks this way, preferrably Burks.

Not for nothing....but we should be shopping the SF, Cuttino, Cato package elsewhere and let this puckhead worry about his next move. I want T Mac and all, but the repurcussions of this deal not getting done CLEARLY outweigh anything else right now. The quicker we can line up something else, the quicker we can give him a drop dead date.

Forcing the Rockets to backup nets the same result as Orlando pulling out themselves. You never do something liek that, it just destroys your reputation. If they didn't want the deal they never should have entered into it. Bottomline, Orlando is just butchering their reputation.

I thought the same, and still kinda do, but maybe he's shopping Cat and Cato to a third team. Maybe?

I don't think Orlando cares if they butcher their reputation, they just want to get the best deal possible.

It is not hurting anyone if the deal takes some time.

People forget all of the hassle of the deal works out well enough for all parties.

Short term memory ....is a good thing.
