Is it time for us to start ratcheting back our offer? Weisbrod ought to pay price for all this counterproductive jerking around.

 

Look, it's essentially been 'done' since T-Mac first made his wishes known, Weisbrod just trying to do what he can to save face.

 

berman didnt give any new info. basically reiterated what has been said about the 7 teams bidding, and such.

 

There aren't 7 teams. No way. That's Weisbrod's joke that only he gets.

I tell ya, I hate that Jim Gray guy but I loved the conviction with what he said about McGrady going to Houston. He sounded VERY certain it would happen! And he was VERY infatic that McGrady was ONLY going to sign an extension with Houston. That is just such a huge point for us.

 

It appears that way. It appears he is putting on a show for the Orlando Media so they feel he got the best deal out there. It is all about perception. The Magic need the Media and fans to think they are doing the best they can.

And to say that the reason that Francis went to the media was because he was mad he wasn't included in negotiations??? Seriously???

Steve is not happy with the way the Rockets handled this. He's frustrated about not being involved in the trade talks.

Has nothing against Orlando and loves Houston.

Sorry, I've been drinking so it's hard type what all was said. I'm sure someone here will post something better.

 

I am watching Weisbrod get interviewed right now on ESPN. The guy is a terrible actor. When asked about whether a McGrady / Steve deal was a done deal, he said no as he licked his lips, ducked his head and literally closed his eyes!

Then he basically made the argument that the decision was bilateral; i.e. McGrady wanted something different, and that the Magic needed to make their franchise better by getting depth in exchange for "the only talent we had on the team last year." Ouch, they better be trading the whole team after that comment.

Then, Tirico asks him whether the stuff about Steve not wanting to go to Orlando hindered the process, and Weisbrod said - and listen to this slip - "no, i don't think it hurt us in preserving the deal." Then he went to great lengths to explain that the reason Steve had that reaction was because it was a knee-jerk, "i don't want to leave Houston" driven reaction, not anything to do with Orlando, and that Steve didn't know anything at the time about Orlando. Basically, Weisbrod gave away the fact that the Magic are doing whatever they can to "preserve the deal" by convincing Steve to come to Orlando.

This is only confirmed by Suns trade of #7 pick to Chicago.

Now here is Fried (steve's agent)'s latest according to Gray: Steve not the issue anymore. Gray: McGrady wants to go to Houston. He holds all the cards. Francis will have to go somewhere else or be convinced to go to Orlando. McGrady reps and Houston sources: deal will be done, but may be 2 to 4 days out.

This may be nothing new - i'm not sure if Weisbrod interview was tape-delayed, in which case it may already have been reported, and i know others have made the same inference about the Suns trade and what that meant; if this is old news, please move on to the next post with my apologies. But, I was fairly skeptical about this thing happening until I saw this last segment with Weisbrod; now, i feel confident the deal is done. For what that's worth.
