It does bother me that both Weisbrod and TMac have not commented on this trade the last two days. Makes me wonder if there is something going on behind the scenes.

If that is the deal, then do it. Everyone wins. ORL fans get someone that would like playing for them, Francis goes back to the upper east coast, and we get TMac.

Hurry and announce it officially already!

Anyone find the NY Daily News article on this to confirm? That would be great! Everyone wins! Do it! Not to mention Mobley. He would LOVE it! He is from Philly!

That would indeed define the word BLOCKBUSTER. It would be the biggest 3-way deal in NBA HISTORY.

Look at the sheer volume of the names involved: Steve Francis, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady... amazing.

If that's the case, Les and co. can just get on the phone w/ Philly to expedite the process, and just make it an official 3-way trade.

I just checked the NY Daily News website and didnt see ANYTHING mentioned as far as that 3 way deal goes. It makes sense but it could be some fanboys made up trade as far as we know.

Actually, IIRC that rule is often misquoted (mainly because the way it is written is confusing). The way I think it actually works is that you cannot at anytime have yourself set up to have 2 consecutive drafts without a first round selection. It is called the "Gund rule" I believe because of a trade made by the Cavaliers, where they gave up a bunch of draft picks and messed themselves up for several seasons. Translated it means that you can't trade this years pick and next years pick right now. However, after the this years draft you can trade next years pick, even if you did not have a 1st round pick this year. It basically keeps teams from trading a ton of consecutive 1st round picks in one year.

An example of how it would work using the current Rockets situation:

As it stands now (6/23/04) the Rockets have the following 1st round picks
    2004- none
    2005- Hou 1st rd pick
    2006- Hou 1st rd pick

Right now they cannot trade the 2005 pick because that would leave them with 2 consecutive drafts without a 1st round selection(2004 & 2005), as stated in the rule above.

However, on 6/25/04 (Friday) the Rockets have these draft picks:

    2005- Hou 1st rd pick
    2006- Hou 1st rd pick
    2007- Hou 1st rd pick

At that time they can trade the 2005 and/or 2007 together, or they could trade the 2006 by itself. Doing either of these would not put themselves in position at that time to have two straight years without a draft pick.

Hopefully Clutch doesn't see this. He frowns upon news from other boards.

He only frowns when new subjects are created with info from other boards (I THINK). I was the one that broke the "Francis did not want to play in Orlando" the other day, which came from the same boards.

"Orlando needs the No. 1 pick to be a successful selection. Rumors of a trade with Houston, which will send superstar Tracy McGrady and other Magic players to the Rockets for Steve Francis and others seems to be imminent. ................."

    That's all I could find.

    I can't stand Steve Francis.
If a deal was cut for him to go to Washington, he'd jump for joy even though that too would be a rebuilding situation.
The fact that he signed a huge contract means nothing to him. He's already got that, but now he also wants to pick his team, even though he's done nothing to earn that extra right. All he wants is something for nothing.

Since you are a Rockets fan, and I am concerning the team a lot, don't I deserve a big raise?:D Kidding aside, I am sure I am the only Rockets fan in this office:)

His contract is not the issue here. There is no debate on his use of the opt out clause in his contract. Hell, even Kobe has opted out so it's no big deal nor is it a point of contention. It's HOW he's using his contract particularly the opt out clause for NEXT year that is the issue. Basically, McGrady is forcing the Magic to trade him because he's had enough of playing for a losing team. That's why he started making noises about opting out and not wanting to play for a rebuilding team, and so on and so forth. Knowing that the Magic suffered greatly from what happened in 1996 with Shaq Daddy, T-Mac & his boyz knew exactly how to force his way out via trade. That's what this is all about. Francis' little trade ploy is something else entirely.

In a way though he IS screwing them because once he went public about not wanting to play there anymore, he put them in a poor bargaining position with other teams because they (other teams) know what the score is and how the Magic will now want to make a trade. In the big scheme of things, however, this boils down to nothing more than an exercise in semantics.
