agreed! The deal is on the table, it was contingent on the expansion draft. That hurdle was passed so we should be good. But the fact that Orlando is STILL soliciting bids is bad business and that is what worries me. If the deal is done, if we are just waiting for July 1 to pass then WHY is Orlando STILL soliciting bids?

I think Orlando would make the playoffs next year with Francis, Mobley and Cato, just because the East is not as strong. Houston's record against the East has been very strong over the past few years.

If Francis was being traded by himself he'd certainly be justified in not wanting to go, but playing with Mobley and Cato it's not a bad situation for him. Francis not wanting Orlando because Houston got into the playoffs this year doesn't strike me as a strong argument because with Mobley and Cato I think he'll definitely help get Orlando into the playoffs next year.

He says he loves Houston but he won't want to stay in Houston if this trade falls through, neither will Mobley. So I think the best situation for him and for Houston is for this trade to happen, now that it's been attempted.

    Question:

I thought that players that are traded in a package are not allowed to be traded from their new team for 90 days (or something like that).

If this is true, then the trade wouldn't have gone down since Orlando wouldn't be able to trade him for a while, HOPEFULLY, the holdup is just seeking out a third team.

But, then why is Orlando taking bids?

I don't even believe they have to wait for July 1. Most public permutations of this deal work now under the realgm trade checker despite Francis' BYC. Gaines, DeClerq and Lue have contracts that make a Francis/Mobley/Cato for McGrady/Howard/**** work under the cap. The Magic are stalling. This deal could have gone down last night.

You can still announce a trade, but it won't be official until the 90 days is up. That is what is making this deal so frustrating. Why not just announce it no matter when it becomes official. This happens all of the time in the NBA. GET ON WITH IT!

QA is after me, my VP is after me, and my Director is after me as well, and I am supposed to get the piece of code out before lunch time. Instead working hard, I am refreshing the browser hard. This is nuts. Never saw so many rumors and opinions circling around like this.

A lot of people want this trade to go down, even me though I think we are giving up a bit much.

I am not sure if this means much but the ESPN story that says the McGrady deal is still on track has been updated from 8:18am this morning to now 11:46am. Same stuff as before though other than adding in Chad Ford's Insider article link.

So I guess nothing new as of yet. :(

Shaq, T-Mac Out of Reach, (From the official site of the Pacers)

The Pacers are out of the superstar business for the time being, but that doesn’t mean they have become inactive in the NBA offseason marketplace.

Team President Larry Bird said Tuesday there are players he’d like to move up to acquire in Thursday night’s NBA Draft. The Pacers have the last pick in the first round, No. 29 overall

“If you have an opportunity to move up and get a player that you’re really after I think you’ve go to do that,” he said. “There’s a couple of guys out there this year I’d love to move up and have the opportunity to select ’em. … If I can’t get up there and get the guy I want, we’ll just take our 29th pick and select a guy and maybe do something later.”

Though Bird didn’t identify the players he’s after, he acknowledged Oregon guard Luke Jackson as a player he admires. A 6-7, 215-pound guard-forward with strong perimeter skills, Jackson has been favorably compared to Brent Barry and Mike Miller.

“I like Luke Jackson, yeah,” Bird said. “He’s a good player. If you like Chris Mullin, you like Luke Jackson.”

Though the Pacers had been mentioned as a possible destination for either Tracy McGrady or Shaquille O’Neal, that no longer appears to be a possibility. McGrady is close to being traded to Houston. The price for O’Neal, which reportedly begins with Jermaine O’Neal, is prohibitive.

“No question, when you’ve got a player like Tracy McGrady out there you try to pursue it, see what it’s going to take to try to get involved,” Bird said. “We really didn’t get down to detail. We just asked them what they would like and really didn’t throw any names out there. The price was really too high for us.”

There were reports Tuesday that the Orlando-Houston deal might’ve run into a roadblock. Steve Francis, the key player the Rockets were sending to the Magic, said he did not want to play in Orlando. The entirety of the deal reportedly would send Francis, Kelvin Cato and Cuttino Mobley to Orlando in exchange for McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue and possibly Reece Gaines.

The New York Post reported the Pacers offered Al Harrington, Jonathan Bender and Jeff Foster to Orlando.

“My personal opinion is they might’ve gotten a better deal from us,” said Bird. “Taking nothing away from the guys that have been traded, I like our guys. I know our guys are talented and they’re hard workers. But when you go after Tracy McGrady you’ve got to give up something and the price was just too high.”

What if the Rockets just offer next years' #1 pick to seal the deal...

I don't think that they can give away more than 2 1st round picks in consecutive years. Since we haven't had one since Yao, they will not be able to trade next year's pick away.

Yea, offer next years #1. I think the way the trade goes down now, Hou gets a steal since Gaines in included. He is only in his second year and could be a fine pg.

I would think we might hear something more definite today. If the Suns, or whoever is trading picks for McGrady, I would think they would want to know by tonight what is really happening so they can start pursuing their next options, rather it be another trade or the draft.

Plus, if the reports are true about Hou getting the #5 pick (backup plan) then they need to know a.s.a.p. Besides, I think the Ollie/Piat trade hinges on whether or not this deal goes through. I mean, why would they make a trade for a pg if they are getting 2 from the Magic?
