This is all Bird's fault. He's stirring the pot, taking this to the media, turning the Orlando fans against their organization. If he is offering a better deal, why doesn't he come clean, and tell us who he offered? And let his own player's feeling's get hurt, not just ours? And why we he want to trade for an African-American? Doesn't he need a white star, to sell more tickets to his white corporate fans?

Thanks for that little bit optimism, Jeff. :)

I still believe that TMac will be on the Rockets roster for next season. Again, what options do the Magic really have? Let TMac go through the motions for a year, and then get nothing for him? Or trade him mid-year, hence ruining the season, and get very little for him? Or trade him now and get the best deal?

    a) Get nothing for TMac
    b) Get very little for TMac
    c) Get the most for TMac

It's obvious the Rockets have the best deal on the table. I'm banking in the fact that TMac not agreeing to a contract extension with anyone but the Rockets is what's going to see this deal through for us.

That trade would be dumber than trading Jason Kidd for Stephon Marbury...

    For comfort:

Francis and Cuttino will not be Rockets next season. We still have the TE & MLE to package with another player to upgrade our roster.

    For your fears:

No matter what, we still have a 7'6 Chinese guy playing Center for us.

I honestly still think the deal will happen. Orlando has as much on the line here as we do. Look at the facts here...

First, if they bail on the Rockets after leaking the story to the press, NO ONE is going to believe them on deals, especially since Wisebrod (or whatever his name is) is basically a rookie calling the shots. The guy is already not well liked in NBA circles for his abrasiveness.

Second, McGrady still wants out and can still say, "Look, I'm not playing in Phoenix after next season," at which point the Suns are stuck with no help.

Most importantly, the longer they wait, the more this overshadows the fact that they have the #1 pick in the draft. They want a positive spin and all the media will want to know is "where is McGrady going."

The bottom line is that this has been handled absolutely professionally by the Rockets. The staff should be commended for keeping their collective mouths shut and not making any announcements about anything. On the other hand, Orlando has handled this piss poorly. They leaked the story and then tried to retract it. Then, they let more details get out when they shouldn't have.

If anything, we can come away safe in the knowledge that our guys did everything the right way and Orlando will come out looking like idiots.

I think Tmac is relaxed and already knows the Houston deal is done. maybe they are just holding the announcement because of that bug in Francis contract.

    Makes ya think:

Couldn't all of this been avoided if CD and Les just didn't say anything to Steve until the deal was complete? Sure Francis would probably hear about it, but there wouldn't be cameras in his face as much.

    I don't know, I guess it doesn't matter, I just want a final answer.

Gee, I don't know. Maybe Les and CD thought that Steve was a mature 27 year-old adult who could handle the idea of being traded. He's said many times that he understands the NBA is a business. You wouldn't know it by the way he's acting.

Teams NEVER do that. Keep in mind that these guys have to work with these agents on different matters. If you keep them in the dark, they remember it. Plus, it is bad business in the league. Players get wind of it as do other franchises.

You just don't do that if you want to keep getting deals done in the future.

But if it does not -- I would imagine teams have called the Rox about alternate deals as they have apparently called Orlando.

The divorce is inevitable, and imminent.

I wish Steve would demand the trade after he gets traded to Orlando instead of right now

Like I said, I'm sick of the Francis bashing. Francis did some good things in Houston and was the star here for a few years. So suddenly, Houston gets a top draft pick again and Francis is supposed to throw his whole game away to go to the new guy. The new guy who doesn't play his advantages when he has them, who doesn't look forward to big matchups, who shoots more outside than he does on the inside, etc. etc. etc.

The Rockets changed coaches and improved a whopping two games in the standings this season, something that could've been done under Rudy T. Now Francis is unhappy where he is going, so what! We're getting a player who is saying the same thing only he's saying it about the place he is NOW! Francis likes the city of Houston obviously or he wouldn't be mind leaving, show him a little gratitude for that at least.

Remember what happened last time a deal like this went down for Houston? We gave up Horry, Cassell, Bryant, and Brown and got no further than the Conference Finals and you don't even want to go there with the Pippen trade. Now we're giving up an all-star point guard (the hardest position to play in the NBA), a good shooting guard, and a big body off the bench which is needed because as Shaq said "Yao never guards him one on one." I'll bet this trade will end up costing us more than helping us and we'll end up being sorry. Don't get me wrong though, I'll be happy to see us succeed I just can't be that positive about it at this moment.

All we know is what he has been quoted as saying, which isn't enough to hold off the deal, simmer down!

    From his agent-
"He's such a young man of conviction, I'm sure it would have some effect on him," Fried said. "He also understands the NBA is a business.

"On balance, he would be able to be a professional and play for the team. We would be kidding ourselves to think it would not have some effect."

He's not happy about it, but I don't think he's said enough to call the deal off...

His agent said on Fox last night, (paraphrasing) - If McGrady gets to pick the team that he wants to play for, so should Steve. He'd like to play there if they can get Shaq. If not, Houston and Orlando should get another team involved in the deal because Steve does not want to play there.

That's pretty messed up to go to the media like that representing Steve.

Besides, didn't Doc Rocket report that Francis knew that he was as good as gone from Houston?

Waaaaah. I don't want to go play for Orlando. I'm sure it's more of a 'damn, when the Rockets win a championship, I won't be here' than a 'damn, the Magic suck, and I will be there.' Of course being the kind of guy that acts before he thinks, he could be pretty upset that he's leaving Yao, for other than basketball reasons.
