McGrady To Houston Thread (Update: Francis will visit Orlando)

My thoughts on this trade:

I'm a student of the "Good to Great" model that JVG seems to love so much, too. In that book, Jim Collins, the author, compares companies that have far exceeded the competition in thier particular industry. One of the first chapters, if not the first chapter, is getting the "right guys on the bus." That's what this is all about.

When you have a chance to get a guy at 25 years old who already ranks in the top 5 players in the game...you do it. You do it and you give up virtually anything to do it. Because pairing him with another growing player who happens to be 7'6" and passes and shoots well, is a very, very good thing.

I'm pumped.

In addition...no one...NO ONE...can criticize this franchise's guts to make the big move. They've proved time and time again that they can and will. Good for them...and good for us, as Rocket fans!

 

You have defensible points. IMO Cato doesn't fight for more minutes because he would just as soon sit as play (tho he plays when out there). Cato is not the dog he was for 2-3 years as he has developed into perhaps the premier back up 5 in the league.

However, give me Boki and 6 mil. I'll make do with someone else besides KC.

i'd say at best, in the end, you would only equal cato with boki and the 6 mil.

I just talked to one of the player licensing guys at work, who in turn talked to Dwight Howard's agent last night. He said that the deal is Francis, Mobley, and Cato for McGrady and Juwan Howard. HOWEVER, there are other players involved which he couldn't remember.

Sure, that's old news (and not very helpful), but this tidbit does affect us: Dwight Howard will most likely go #1 (not absolutely definite, because anything can happen, but it's damn close). Orlando is scared by Okafor's possible injury bug. That means that Charlotte will most likely not bully Orlando and screw up the McGrady trade, because they're getting the man they want, anyway, in Okafor (assuming Bickerstaff is to be believed that Okafor is "their guy"). Granted, the last sentence was pure conjecture, but it IS somewhat logical.

Just a little confirmation for the masses. Keep in mind that agents CAN lie...

 

Amen. Management has shown the willingness to go for the home run more than any other team in the NBA.

 

Howard will take years to develop, while Okafor could step in and average 8 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks right away. But this will probably help us get Reece Gaines, for what it's worth.

 

Excellent question. I'm not sure if JVG will say anything until the deal is finalized, but I can't wait to hear his thoughts.

 

Does anyone have that picture of TMac in a Rockets' uniform? I'm going to send it to some coworkers. One is a Spurs fan, and the other a Lakers fan.

I don't know if this has been mentioned (seems like everything that can be mentioned has been mentioned in this thread ). Last night I heard from radio (LA) that Houston was given 48 hours to negotiate a contract extention with McGrady. If that's true, the deal won't be finalized until TMac agrees with the terms the Rockets are offering.

 

There's a lot of BS posturing across the country right now on this deal... I'd believe either local radio sources or ESPN-confrimed sources (ie, not Chad Ford) over random LA radio call in shows, etc.

For what its worth, Les will stop at nothing to get this deal done... T-Mac may get more $$$ than he ever dreamed. The money issue won't stop this deal.

 

Bench? WHAT bench??? It was a marginal bench before - it's absolutely horrible now. And since I don't believe in CD's ability to find NBA players, this doesn't look to improve anytime soon.

 

This is too much drama for me. Let's just get this done!!

 

Jeez, the anticipation is killing me! I seriously wish this would just go through. I want to be able to go down to my local Champs and purchase a jersey with "Rockets" on the front and "McGrady" on the back.
