As usual, Vescey proves himself to be the biggest assclown in NBA circles. Orlando wouldn't give up a big unless they were getting a big in return.

Am I the only one who thinks Houston is giving up a bit too much?

You can only find out if it is true at this time next year.

This is essentially a 3 for 1 deal, with cap fodder to make it work. Rule of thumb? One trumps three. Every time. (Except with draft choices perhaps.)

To some degree yes they are but my biggest concern is how T-Mac & Yao's contract effect the salary cap & will the Rockets have $$$ to go after decent free agents role players??

You wont feel that way next summer when we wil have had 2 summers of MLE's and one draft (2005) to replenish our bench. Not bad price to pay to get a TOP FIVE NBA PLAYER who is about to ENTER his prime!

Remember, it is all about the LONG TERM...not the short quick fix!

If this has been asked and answered, I apologize.

I saw that if Cuttino, Cato, Lue or Howard is taken by Charlotte, then then deal may hit a snag...

    A) Are any of these guys definitely unprotected?

    B) If , say Howard or Cato, is drafted, will the deal die?

Bernie already said they(Bobcats) arent taking big contracts, so that rules out Cato and howard....logic also dictates that the Rockets would not have left Cat unprotected with his small contract and big production......remember, the decision on the protected list was made before the TM trade talks began, so at that time the Rockets were deciding who they wanted to keep around....and I would put all the money I had to the fact that Cat was in their future plans until the TM thing came up...

so...even tho we dont know for sure who is protected...logic and the factrs as we know them show that the only player out of that list who the Bobcats might take would be Lue...

besides....most sources are saying that it is Gaines that is in danger of being taken, and supposedly he is a part of the deal also...

but we wont know for sure till later today(tonight)...

THIS IS A BAD DEAL...WE GET AN INJURY PRONE 25 YEAR OLD AND A WASHED UP HOWARD AND GARBAGE FOR STEVIE AND CAT AND CATO...

Did I tell you how bad I think this is?

I think it's too quick to dump Stevie and I agree that JVG, although a great defensive coach, is not a great offensive minded coach that is needed to succeed...

I haven't bothered to sift through all 26 pages of this thread, but I sincerely hope Cat isn't unprotected as ESPN is reporting. Why wouldn't Charlotte pick him up? His production to salary ratio is fantastic...

It's probably a mistake, which seems to be there running theory.

But it's definitely cause for concern.

    Mobley is protected.

Houston's unprotected players were Adrian Griffin, Pike, and Mo T

Just remember, Cato makes over 7 million a year. In fact a year or two ago I, along with most of the BBS, was calling for his head. He's put together a couple of years of solid ball, but 7+mil a year, come on.

Howard cancels out Cato. Howards better and he makes a bit less, but we get him for a year longer than the Cato contract. It's a wash.

So really, we are trading 2 for 1 (Steve and Cat for T-Mac), and we get to keep our 6 mil trade exception.

Steve and Cat for T-Mac a fair deal for both teams, but a truly great player like T-Mac comes along once a blue moon.

the NY post said it was francis, cat, and nachbar for mcgrady, howard, lue, and gaines...

and the orlando sentinel said francis, cat , cato and/or nachbar for the same 4 players..

so i guess we can maybe hope that cato stays with houston, therefore leaving us with only the point guard position in need of being fixed.

    PG: gaines, lue, wilks
    SG: mcgrady, piatkowski
    SF: j. jackson, a. griffin
    PF: howard, motaylor
    C: yao, cato

that looks a lot better than w/o cato and as much as i hate to see nachbar go... i'd rather have cato there to back yao up.
I say we then try to rid lue and piatkowski for a better SF (mckie), and sign a PG that would fit JVG such as Fisher or B.Barry (whom everyone likes).

    then we would have:

    PG: B. Barry/Fisher, Gaines, Wilks
    SG: McGrady, McKie
    SF: J. Jackson, A. Griffin
PF: Howard, MoTaylor (though he will probably be traded)
    C: Yao, Cato

and that is what CD should do.

I'd also rather see the Rox keep Cato over Boki. I know I'm probably in the minority here, but Boki really hasn't shown a whole lot. Cato is a solid backup for Yao.

Give me Boki and let me save the 6 mil difference. i think I can find Cato's replacement with the savings.

Yeah, when you factor in the salaries it does make more sense to let Cato go. I was speaking more from a purely basketball sense.

you may be able to find a replacement.. but Cato works hard, is well-liked by JVG, doesn't complain about not getting minutes (he plays what he gets), and is used to playing with Yao.

That is why I would guess that nachbar goes instead of cato, and it's well worth the 6 mil to have a competant back-up C, especially with Yao's stamina.
