Im not saying no deal if they want Boki, but im wondering why people want gaines. I rather have that zaza guy backing up yao then gaines backing up wilks.

Chron reporting that Boki is not in the deal. However, if the deal includes Gaines, I'm ok with losing Boki. Gaines has a strong upside and is basically a wash in terms of talent.

If Boki isn't involved AND we get Gaines, it would really allow us to remain loaded at the wing positions, which is important.

I've only seen a few games he's played in, but for some reason he just doesn't seem like a fluid basketball player. It looks like he's thinking out on the court, and he doesn't react very quickly. That describes half the centers in the league, but you just can't have that out of a point guard.

And further... He's not really good at anything. He doesn't have any strengths that would creat a favorable matchup on the court, so I guess when you're not good at anything you aren't seen as an NBA prospect.

heres what peter vescey is saying in his latest article

    http://nypost.com/sports/23513.htm

These are a few of my favorite things gleaned from sources very much in the know.

Steve Francis was named in the exchange program prophecy. In less than two weeks when Francis' base year salary status all but evaporates, he'll officially join the Magic along with Cutino Mobley and throw-in Bostjan Nachbar. Juwan Howard and Tyronn Lue will join McGrady in Houston. McGrady earns $13.3 million in '04-05, while Howard pockets $5.4M and Lue $1.65M. Francis is on the books for $12.3M, Mobley $5.88M and Nachbar $1.49M.

From what I'm told, McGrady only had eyes for the Rockets from the git-go. Phoenix interjected itself into the conversation early because it quickly offered to swap Shawn Marion.

so is cato not in the deal or is vecsey just talking nonsense like he usually does.

as much as i would hate to lose boki, its better to keep cato. we need him more, and if we can find a replacement then we can trade him for more too.

ESPN NEWS reports that the deal is:

    steve, cat, cato

    for

    mac, howard, lue

and ed grey did say that howard was unprotected, and if he is picked by the bobcats that the trade IS NOT DEAD...it will just have to be re-worked to fit capwise.

"I thought we were really building something, something very good in Houston," Francis said. "Obviously that's not the direction they want to go. I still think we could be a very good team.

"I'm not crying. Like I told you before, I know this is a business. Things like that happen. I'm not mad. I'm not upset. This is what they're trying to do. But like I said, I still think we could be something."

i love this quote and i agree 100%

i don't even wanna argue. it's killing me to be a rockets fan right now. a whole era thrown down the drain.

i dont know if i can watch my team reinvent themselves again:(

you know who is probably gonna throw a party tomorrow night when the deal becomes official is juwan howard. he's never been on a winning team really at all the one time he has he gets shipped out real quick (dallas) at least he has a chance to succeed here in houston. I think he is a good guy at the 4 spot, of course not nearly as good as the other pfs in the west, but who are? I think we need to stop worrying on trying to get a PF that will be like garnett or duncan or brand because that will never happen. Getting players to complement our stars and contribute on both ends of the court is going to be the difference.

Isnt Horry a team-option on the spurs this year? if he is not picked up (i doubt he wont be the spurs liked him) i would love to see CD and Les pursue him (for a reasonable price of course) and get him back in the red and white 25 if not this coming season then the season after.
Not as a starter of course but as a role player off the bench

im a little torn here. on the one hand francis is my favorite player and unlike many others i fully appreciate the hustle and work he put into trying to make this a winning team. he wore his heart and his emotions on his sleeve and because of that he didn't always make the right comment or quote. i'm very sad to see him go and i might even get league pass to catch magic games or whatever team he ends up on.

on the other hand i'm a rockets fan first and any deal to land mcgrady and not give up yao is an absolute must-do. right now i'm just concerned about giving up boki, i really think he's got the skills to be a solid player and it'd be a huge mistake to let him go as just a salary filler.

So Tmac wasn't lying when he said he wanted to come to Houston!!

The deal would be great ex. Nachbar. Hopefully, we can keep him. He's long, athletic and he hustles. Just needs improvement on his shooting.

I don't think Howard's a good fit - we need more of a defensive minded power forward , and he's wayyy too small to be playing against the PFs of the west. He can't block shots either. What's his career average?? 0.5 or something? Anyway, see how he fits in and then if we wanna trade him during the course of the season, we can.

This is really the start of something big.

P.s. I'll definitely miss Francis & Mobley, but I'm happy if they have a good career in Orlando. Mobley wants to be an allstar, and he has a good chance in the East. Francis will excel in the East with an open court style. It'll be great for both sides.

I wonder how Yao is taking this or if he even knows of the news?? He probably was not consulted about this happening. I think if Boki goes as well, his two best friends on the team (Francis & Boki)..he'd be heart broken.

Because its McGrady....nothing against Francis but he isnt T-Mac. In my opinion this is the only way Houston would trade Francis.

Francis was great in the playoffs; he hustled his butt off....but when you can get a TOP 5 player that is taller and younger and more athletic and will work with our franchise player (Yao)....you gotta do it.

    Yao is 23, T-Mac is 25....can you say  :D :D
