    So it looks like this:

    Francis, Mobley, Cato

    for

    McGrady, Howard, Lue and Gaines

That is a GREAT deal for the Rockets, much better than I had thought we would get. I would think that if we got Lue and Gaines, we wouldn't make the Pike for Ollie swap.

sounds like a plan, but Barry would cost the entire 4.5 mid level exception. Not sure how they would get both. Also, that would give them 4 PG's, if you count Lue and now Ollie

i guess declerq isnt that great anyway. what did ming drop on him that one game? 37 pts, wasnt it??

still, the rockets need a backup center desperately

    ACTUALLY...Reece Gaines Draft Profile

Says that he can run the point too...at 6'6"...so yea.

and I don't know if Barry is worth the MLE over the what...4-5 years he demands? that's pretty long...do like Barry though.

we don't need Ollie. Let's get Barry and Lue, and put Pike in the pacage to get either Gaines or DQ or both.

dang...i love you guys. i've been thoroughly entertained for the last 15-or-so-minutes catching up (4+ pages.)
this supports my theory that the true rockets season is the nba off-season.
    man, this is good stuff...

so what will the bobcats want? my guess is picks, and since we have none i guess the magic will have to shell out one of their second rounders.

The Orlando Magic were working on a blockbuster deal Monday to send all-star guard Tracy McGrady -- and perhaps as many as three other Magic players -- to the Houston Rockets.

According to several league sources and other reports, McGrady, forward Juwan Howard, forward-center Andrew DeClercq and point guard Tyronn Lue will be be traded to the Rockets for all-star guard Steve Francis, center Kelvin Cato and/or Bostjan Nachbar and forward Cuttino Mobley.

it can be any 2 of the 3, or just Declerq. On the other hand, Orlando may demand Rox throw in Boki or another small contract as bonus to sweeten the deal. in that case I prefer to send Pike, not Boki.

I'd much rather have Gaines than DeClercq. A backup center should be easy to find. For example, call up Seattle, and offer Spoon for one of their three unprotected centers (Booth,James or Potapenko). Or give up the trade exception for one, by getting Charlotte to pick one for us (I'd take Potapenko, personally).

DeClerq is going to enjoy not having to guard Yao and get completely owned twice a year anymore....in games -- but then practice starts...

Here's another couple of links and partial articles:

    http://www.floridatoday.com/!NEWSROOM/sportstoryS0622MAGICAL.htm
Because total salaries must come within 15 percent of one another in NBA trades, Orlando might also acquire Houston guard Cuttino Mobley and center Kelvin Cato in the deal. The Magic would also have to send power forward Juwan Howard, point guard Tyronn Lue and guard Reece Gaines to the Rockets.

"I spoke to (Houston general manager) Carroll (Dawson) and it was not a done deal," Fried said. "It's close. It's subject to a few contingencies."

Contrary to an ESPN.com article that suggested that Howard was the player stalling the deal, the primary hangup is the inclusion of Gaines. Because Gaines was left unprotected by the Magic -- Howard was actually protected -- he could be picked today by the Charlotte Bobcats in the NBA expansion draft. The Magic might have to work out a deal to keep the Bobcats from selecting Gaines and ultimately wrecking the trade with the Rockets.

One possible scenario is that the Magic agree to take Dwight Howard and not Emeka Okafor with the first selection in Thursday's NBA Draft. That would allow the Bobcats to snatch Okafor with the second pick. Charlotte general manager/head coach Bernie Bickerstaff has openly raved about wanting to build the new franchise around Okafor.

    http://www.floridatoday.com/!NEWSROOM/sportstoryS0622MAGICSIDE.htm
ORLANDO -- Already poised to trade Tracy McGrady and three other starters to Houston, the Orlando Magic expect to lose promising center Zaza Pachulia today when the expansion draft is held for the newly created Charlotte Bobcats.

The Magic protected McGrady, Grant Hill, Juwan Howard, Drew Gooden, Pat Garrity, Tyronn Lue, Keith Bogans and Andrew DeClercq. That means the Bobcats can select guards DeShawn Stevenson and Reece Gaines and Pachulia. Stevenson, acquired in a February trade, is a restricted free agent and becomes an unrestricted free agent if taken by Charlotte.

Gaines, the 15th pick in last summer's draft, was the most surprising player left unprotected by the Magic. But his agent, Andy Miller, doesn't get the sense that Charlotte is about to pluck him off the Magic's roster. He said Gaines wasn't offended by being left unprotected.

"Reece is a body of work that is in progress," Miller said of Gaines, who played in 38 games last season. "Reece hasn't been able to show the marketplace how valuable he is. I certainly think he has a lot of upside and he's going to be a heck of a player for a lot of years. But to date, he hasn't been able to showcase that. Therefore he's an anomaly to teams, from ones looking at him to the team he's on now. But we're not offended because we know this is a business. We just look at it as over time Reece will eventually get a chance to show what his value can be."

if bobcats picks Gaines, we just demand Delerq and Lue. No need to scrap the deal.
