canoner2002: so this trade works, but the one without declerq does not?
That means the Rockets must be giving up more salary than the Magic (since adding in DeClerq-more salary from the Magic makes it work).

So Nachbar can't be involved, it would just skew the salaries involved even more toward Houston.

I want this trade to be finalized so I can relax.

and for general clarification: I think the TE can't be involved in this trade. Isn't it only usable as an addition in a one for one swap?

The problem with that 3-3 trade is Magic doesn't give up enough in contracts. If SF's BYC were a factor, magic would have to give even more.

you are correct....the TE cannot be used in a multiplayer trade.

it will be used for our next move....whoever that is...:)

Magic gives up more money in the 4-3 trade without Boki. But Boki's contract is small, and adding it in won't get the deal declined.

However, if Magic takes DQ off, we are giving up too much money and the difference is over the limit.

So I guess playing with Mobley isn't that big a deal for Steve.

I have to say, if he were a true competitor, he'd look at this as a challenge. I see no reason why adding 3 starters from a Western Conference playoff team plus the number 1 pick shouldn't give them a great chance to be, say a 7th seed in the East.

Also, YOF can stop saying Steve didn't like Yao, because with the parts going to Orlando with him, he basically has last year's Rockets (aside from Yao)+ the number one pick, but he can't get out of there fast enough. Hence, he realizes how good he had it, playing with Yao.

"if it doesn't work out that shaq goes to orlando, then the rockets and orlando need to bring in another team"

I did here Berman say they were hopeful though, so I probably just took that the wrong way. I think I'm just like a lot of people and will be really on edge until this thing actually gets done. Lets sign the papers and wrap this thing up so we can all relax! :)

That's what I was hoping for. So basically the Magic have to add in another player in addition to those 3 to make it work, right?

Unless something crazy happens like a 3rd team getting in on it, or the rockets not sending all 3 guys.

Someone told me DFish opted out and David Aldridge said that Fish wants to play in Houston. Any truth to it? I gotta Tivo Sportscenter. :(

didn't Boston make the playoffs this past season, and the Hornets are moving

there is no reason why a team of Steve, Cat, Cato, Okafur, Garrity, Bogans, Gaines and maybe even Hill can't be pushing for a plus 45 win season, and in the east that is close to home court in the first round

That's what I'm saying. I think maybe Steve hasn't thought this through so well. Emotions getting the best of him, etc..

plus I guess you could also say he realizes that that team, while it will make the playoffs, is not going to win a championship. That's where I am a little surprised that he's not taking it as more of a challenge- he's always seemed like such a competitor. I'd think he'd be working out in preparation to drop 50 on the Rockets next year and dunk on Tmac.

I hope so. As a Laker I wish him ill will, but as a player that can hit open shots and play aggressive D and a decent skill of acting, I wish he signs with us.

That's right, but I think they will demand Boki too after they add DQ in the trade. I hope CD is tough on it and somehow avoid giving up Boki.

Alternatively, Orlando can offer DQ, not Lue. Then the 3-3 trade will work.

DA said Fish is "interested" in playing for Houston, but with our situation right now, I don't see why he wouldn't.

I know we have the MLE and TE to work with, I wonder what kind of FAs or deals it can get us.

Good D? I am not sure about it. 50% of his D is flopping, but refs are not buying it any more.

when he's not in LA they may tolerate it less. Barry is probably interested too, and for him the feeling should be mutual.

That's what I meant by good D. hahha. Honestly though, if he can hit outside open jumpers for us like he did for the Lakers, it'll be all good. We miss that kind of player last year when there were times we couldn't even hit a wide open 12 footer.

From Hoophype.com salaries, Francis/Mobley/Cato will make a combined $25.2 million next year. So that means Orlando has to send out 85% of that in salary, of $21.32 million. McGrady and Howard are slotted to make $19.89 next year. That means Orlando only needs to send us another $1.43 million in salaries.

If this is the accurate unprotected list, and an unprotected player from Orlando is holding up the deal, then take your pick from these Orlando players:

    Reece Gaines - $1,212,200
    Britton Johnsen - free agent
    Zaza Pachulia - $620,046
    DeShawn Stevenson - $2,362,953

So it could be Gaines and Pachulia. Or just Stevenson. Or if this is not 100% accurate, just DeClerq, at $2.76 million. Or just Lue at $1.65 million. Or Lue plus Gaines. Etc.

Another advantage of getting Fisher is that it would only intensify the Rockets/Spurs and Rockets/Lakers rivalries. Lord knows the NBA could use those right now.
