That's been the knock on him from day one. He's an incredible athlete who came to the game late and does some really dumb things.
Wow! Thanks for the great read, pgabriel. Man, he sounds like the "star" in the HBO series, Entourage, lookin' out for his friends and relatives. Heck, if loyalty is that important to him, let's get him on the Rocks and let him get some from our people, and work his butt off. If he can just stay healthy, we just might have snatched a platinum catch... assuming we get Derek.
The ONLY reason why I would prefer having Spree over DA is Spree's approach to the game on the court. I just think you gain so much with his toughness and attitude (and playoff experience too) that is more than any 'intangible' DA can offer. However, with that being said, both guys are good players, although DA to me is a bit on the soft side, I hope he proves me wrong if he signs with the Rox.
I remember reading an article about how some of his teammates made fun of him by calling him "Slowmile" instead of Stromile.
Sometimes we know a players attributes because the NBA knows and the word spreads. Gooden, the power forward in Cleveland is supossed to have trerrible basketball smarts. I don't know him but I read a lot of NBA stuff. I liked his life story, I follow him some, and want him to succeed. However, comments of coachs, scouts and players concinve me that Gooden might have the physical tools, maybe even the drive to succeed, but he is being held back by lack of basketball smarts. I I give all players coming in to the Rockets under Van Gundy a pass on their previous basketball life, after the Rockets performance last year. If Swift does not have McGrady or Jon Barry basketball smarts, I assume JVG will have Swift playing a role that takes advantage of his physical ability and drive, ie: have Swift doing what he is good at. I saw many of the current Rockets playing better then I thought they were capable of last year. Tracy, Deke, Jon Barry, Wesley, Mike, and what about Juwan Howard. We have the coach, the system, the two superstars, to allow others to reach their basketball potential. Can't wait for the season to start, can't wait to see Swift flying down the court, flying thru the air, and maybe showing us that he has strong basketball IQ.
I have a question, hope it is the right place to ask. I read from another website that TMac once said he planned to retire once the current contract expired (2010?). Is that true?
