You're right about his mentality. It's like he doesn't care. McGrady is one of the most talented players in the league, but has a weak heart and doesn't work hard, and ultimately that led him to where he is now.
Of course it's impossible for us to know but the thought that McGrady suffers from depression has crossed my mind many times. I really think it's a very realistic possibility.
I doubt Tmac's decline has anything to do with him playing since high school. Look at other players who got drafted in their high school years? Beside, Tmac must be the only players that were absence or missed most of the games during a season. he wasn't playing that many games on average per season anyway. How could the wear and tear be an arguement? I think is it his work ethic and his body condition. he isn't those types of player that work during the off season on the condition and strengthen of their body. He depended all on his youth and talent, which one day both will catch up to him.
T-Mac's decline was both mental and physical. Mentally you are looking at someone who constantly needs reasurance through everone else that he is great, as a person, player, whatever. Some call it depression, I would call it low self esteem. That is why he continues to talk about himself in third person consistently. He is constantly evaluating himself with a magnifying glass and not sure about the results. Look at the Darfur Project. That was a way for him to feel good about himself and what he was doing, because obviously he was unsure of that I his daily life. Physically, the breakdown can come from a number of different things but probably his training routines that have been noted for years. As a former personal trainer myself, I have seen interviews and videos where he talks about his former trainer and how he really just focused on muscle building and weight training to do the same exercise routine every time. Only till a couple years ago did McGrady finally fire that guy and start trying to fix his body's chemisty with Tim Grover's cross training techniques and biometrics. Professional athletes need to work out alot different then the guys at LA fitness with cut off shirts and frosted tips.
Haha Tim Grover. Yes we have seen how well the tim grover project has worked out. No amount of grover workouts can get that guy back to "elite status." Tracy is simply not a spring chicken anymore, face it.
If McGrady had gone to college, he might have learned to have a work ethic and maybe to play team ball. Instead he came out of high school, a high school where no doubt he was the centerpiece and probably didn't have to practice because of his natural ability. Now that ability is wearing out and his lack of basketball iq, work ethic, and sense of team he probably would have got in college are showing
Is their any proof to the opinion that he doesnt work hard? The evidence just doesnt back this opinion
