He's actually one of the best five posters on this board. He has no playoff posting experience, however, no has he proven he can post with a big man. I say we just stay put with FinalFantasy and TB3, forget this thacabbage stuff.
Thacabbage nothing you said makes much sense. This is all hypothetical. Yao's progression is hypothetical. Right now he's a little above average. T-mac has not proven he is compatible with yao. Steve Franchise has. T-mac has not shown he has the desire and determination to become better. Franchise has. Instead he made a stupid remark last year in the 1st round saying that their playoff series was done. Right now he hasn't shown much except for scoring ability. It takes much more than scoring ability to become great in this league. If you don't see that, you shouldn't be talking about basketball.
Myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy GOD man. You are SOOOO damn wrong, I swear to God Almighty the reason I'm not replying to you is that it would be too long and tiresome. I'm saying this with complete honesty, you're rationale is soooooooooooooooooooooooo FLAWED. Did anyone else find almost every sentence of tbui's in this thread just plain irrational? COMMON man. Come to grips with it. I'll start Weatherspoon, Boki and Wilks if it means the other 2 starters are Yao and T-Mac, and I truly believe they'd be able to do as well as the current Rockets. AT MOST, we will lose 3 players, and get back 1. So we're down 2. With the MLE and Minimum, we can easily replace 2 players. We're deep enough to handle it. Everyone says how this team is so talented, but the problem is that the talent is scattered. Now we're turning that talent into one player, into star power... STAR POWER wins championships. Even after writing all that, when I think of how long it would take to reply to your post, my brain gets NUMB. JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ.
right. you cannot win this argument. one time i tried to argue with juugie and it was like this. so i advise you conserve some brain cells for other more worthwhile activities.
I seldom suggest a thread be closed, but this one takes the cake. The rules of this BBS request that you not start new threads on an existing subject. You didn't need to create a new thread to make your point. Perhaps if you debated the facts from a different point of view, and had an interesting topic, you might be tolerated. But, when you resort to name calling and dogmatic posturing, you lose all credibility. I have found that THACABBAGE's posts have been some of my favorite since the early days of this BBS. To call him a fool, then an idiot, and to treat his logical debate of the facts in a trashing manner, I find offensive. What you don't know, is that THACABBAGE pushed very hard for us to get Tracy McGrady in 98/99, when we had a chance, before he was traded to the Magic. As I recall it, according to one of our insider's, McGrady was discussed as part of the Dream trade scenario, when Toronto offered us #5, #12, Christie and Willis. According to Popeye, McGrady was discussed as part of that deal as well as another one, but we didn't want to let go of one of our players that they wanted. I remember THACABBAGE going ballistic, saying that McGrady was a major up and comer, and that we should have been willing to trade almost anyone to get him. He stated then, that he expected him to become one of the best players in the league. He also stated that we would regret not trading Dream at that time. Well, he was right on both counts. THACABBAGE has had a long history of wanting McGrady to be on the Rockets. He deserves to post on this subject, without being called stupid names. I wish he would post more. In my opinion, TBUI, you owe him an apology, whether you agree with him or not.
Actually, Posey would've put us over the cap. The cap hit would've been roughly $12 million. It was his initial salary that would've been $6 million.
some poeple need to wake up and realize this team will move no where unless changes are made. You either are elite or not. I feel mcgrady can take us to the next level. Having a point guard that cant shoot, pass, or handle the ball wont take us far. MCGRADY>FRANCIS. Like another poster said in another thread, some people have man crush.
Read my ENTIRE reply. You took the last statement of my reply to summarize my entire post which doesn't reflect what my post was about. Take your own advice and read my ENTIRE post bf4 hating on me. Peace.
This was funny, but then... followed by... The Lakers bench is a bunch of veterans and retreads. It's all about Kobe and Shaq for them. Saying a player isn't a top 5 player because he hasn't proven he can play with a big is one of the most fallacious arguments I've ever heard. Derek Fisher must be a better PG than Francis; Francis hasn't shown he can play with Shaq!!!! A.McGrady is not a top 5 player He has two top four MVP voting finishes to his name in the last 3 years, and is two time All-NBA first team, two time All-NBA second team, and a former MIP. That alone is enough to make an argument for him. For a team that has performed miserably on offense, why exactly would we not want a 25 year old who has averaged 30 ppg and 5.5 apg over the last 2 seasons? B. Francis is proven in the playoffs, McGrady isn't Sure, we'll gloss over the fact that TMac has more than 3 times the playoff experience... In 18 playoff games, McGrady has averaged 29+ ppg, 6.6 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1+ spg, 1+ bpg, 3.17 to. In 5 playoff games, Francis has averaged 19+ ppg, 8.4 rpg, 7.6 apg, 1+ spg, 4.2 to. Biggest difference I see is Tmac dropping ten more ppg. My final point: Every one of the conference finals teams had a player that was at least All-NBA 2nd team this year. For the Western Conference, it was at least two (Kobe/Shaq-first team; Garnett-first team/Cassell-second team). Right now, Yao has made 3rd team, and will most likely reach 2nd team status. Francis is yet to make All-NBA 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team; McGrady has made 1st team twice, and the 2nd team twice. Even you should be able to answer this one: who is more likely to be an All-NBA level player- the 25 year old swingman who has made the first or second team in each of the last 4 seasons, or the 27 year old "scoring point guard" who is yet to make the first, second, or third team?
Damn tbui it seems like your taking it personal. Alot of your statements have been refuted and all you do is keep bashing tmac and people that are advocating to trade for him. You say everything is hypotetical. Well your right, everything is, thats what nba gms do when they draft people and make trades. Did jerry west know kobe was going to become the best swingman in the game? It was hypotetical wasnt it. I dont know what makes you think SF is compatible with yao. They like each other and all, but their games are far from compatible. Look at steves stats when jvg turned yao into the center of the offense and the offense is still not completely centered around yao. Id like to see what tmac can do when he is not doubled and trippled all the time. Coming in as a high schooler and becoming the leading scorer for the last 2 seasons probably requires alot of determination to become better. Francis has got better? What major part of his game has he improve since the 5 years he has been in the league. 5 years in the league and he still cant pass, makes stupid decisions, loses his composure, leads the league in Ts, doesnt have a reliable jumpshot... List goes on. He is a little more then just a scorer. Rip Hamiliton is just a scorer. Tmac and Rip arnt even in the same class. Dampier and Magloire? Why would you want another center. Dampier is in a contract year and is opting out of 8mill a year so he can get more and go to the eastern conference. we dont need a backup center and I dont want to see another lumbering center at the 4. Dampier and magloire wouldnt make good starting 4s. I think you misplaced Cat for SF in your last line. You and thacabbage have contrasting views on trading for Tmac and while he refutes your statements you just call him and idiot and say he doent make sense. It seems to me your the one who doesnt make sense and shouldnt be talking about basketball.
Wait a minute, I wasn't the one starting the feud. I simply presented my points in a respectable manner. However, thacabbage has been quite disresepctful and childish. I aint going to tolerate that nonsense. YOu can present an argument without implying that your viewpoint is the best viewpoint out there. That is the biggest fallacy out there--thinking an argument is based on shooting down other people's statments in a disrespectful manner and deeming our answer to be the best answer possible. thacabbage should be the one owing me an apology and needs to learn civil discourse.
I might be wrong and let me know if I am, but didn't McGrady start to develop a semi-bad rap for flaming out in crunch time in his last few playoff series against NO and others?
Perhaps I phrased a couple things wrong but my whole post is this. I believe the Rockets are a couple of pieces away from having a very good team in contention for the title. If we can get a 4 that scores a little more, a good 6th man, and a running, scoring, defensive player at the 3 we are in good shape. I advocate the move of Mobley in order for some of these moves to be made. Most of the games I have seen, Mobley has struggled on fast breaks, doesn't pass well, and turns the ball over quite a bit. I don't think the solution is an overhaul with T-mac at the helm. A couple of players added can change the team chemistry. A couple of good passers, shooters here and there along with JVG strong defensive scheme and we'll have a solid team. I just don;t think T-Mac is the answer. Now thacabbage disagrees fine. But don't impose your views upon mine and say that my views are wrong. That's why thacabbage is and will always be an idiot in my mind.
Most of the games I have seen, Francis has struggled on fast breaks, doesn't pass well, and turns the ball over quite a bit. I think it's a better description which makes it worse since that's what a good floor leader and point gaurd is supposed to excell at.
While your suggestions would make this team alot better and possibly a contender, I dont think we could ever win a ring with steve. He just doesnt seem to get it. I can understand why many of you guys like him so much, he is a class act and shows all the heart in the world, but he doesnt know how to play the game. He just doesnt have the basetball IQ or court vision to be a good leader. I personally think steve has to go inorder for this team to succeed. Ive said this before, You cant lead a basetball team when you are the one making the most mistakes and lose your composure all the time. Steve hasnt developed his point guard skills in 5 years and I have no reason to believe he ever will. I could be wrong but I dont want to wait around and see when we are paying him 14-16 million an year when he loses some of his quickness and athleticism.
