it was more like Duncan but then Duncan stayed in SA so the Magic MAX'd out Hill instead.

    Instead of pushing for T-Mac?

Only, we'll never challenge for a title. What a sad future. :( If we don't get the "star," it wont matter what role players we get.

the rockets didn't get their first championship until like they were in existence for like at least 20 years...some teams don't even have a championship *coughUtahcough*. so yea..we'll just have to wait another 10 years or so. :D :D

i actually think he has a valid point here...August is a long way off and alot can happen in 3 months. Its almost certain that another team(s) will step up to the plate with some offers that are comparable are better to the rocket's deal in the coming months. If we put all our eggs in one basket we are sure to get burned. Maybe we should look around and see what other pieces might fit...

That being said...damn TMAC would be sweet :)

If I'm Detroit, I offer Darko, Okur and Rip Hamilton to Orlando. That might be tempting. I can't think of how anyone else could outbid us. Indiana could offer Artest, Harrington, Bender, Tinsley, etc but I still think we have them beat. Everyone's afraid of Dallas but I don't think Orlando wants older players like Finley, Walker, etc. Phoenix is screwed. Chicago could offer Curry, Chandler, Crawford, Fizer, Jeffries, etc. They've got more young talent and good picks than anyone. No superstar like Steve though.

It just depends on what Orlando wants to do. Do they want to be good now and pick the Houston deal or invest in the future and go with Dwight Howard #1 and some other young talent from Chicago?

Does anyone else have the fear that we will end up trading steve to orlando for the #1 pick and filler instead of for McGrady? Maybe I'm just paranoid

This is definitely good news, and probably all we have to cling to until mid-July. As far as Houston's concerned, we probably have an offer on the table to Orlando that includes Francis and the Trade Exception. So we're waiting on several things (in importance).

    1. McGrady making a stay/go decision to Orlando in July.
    2. McGrady puts Houston on a short list including Det and Ind.
    3. Orlando decides to take Francis back

To tell you the truth, I'd be just as happy if we picked up Rasheed Wallace instead of TMac. You need forward play to win in the West. LA couldn't beat San Antonio last year because Medvenko and Horace Grant were playing PF. By adding Wallace, we get to keep our current depth. If we trade for TMac, Orlando may just rape and pillage the little depth we have.

If Orlando demands Cuttino Mobley in the deal, I would decline. This year, Mobley established himself as a top-tier defender, capable of guarding Kobe. Not to mention that he has happily accepted his role on the team as defensive stopper/3 point specialist. It even got to the point where I wanted him more involved in the offense. The thing that most of us overlook is that he logged like 42 minutes a night, 5th in the NBA. The guy is a hoss, and doesn't heave up shots the way he used to. I used to be the biggest Cuttino basher on the board. But I think he's played his way into JVG's team.

Couldnt we have had him already some years back when we were supposedly talking to Toronto about a package for Dream?

Someone on here must remember this.

Anyway, I hope we get him even if we have to give up Cat and Steve to do so.

Baqui: I think the important thing here that you and others aren't realizing is if T-Mac's comments were calculated, Orlando loses serious leverage in any trade talks. It's his decision where he wants to go, it doesn't matter who can put together the best package. If he ultimately tells him "trade me to Houston or I walk next summer," we're suddenly looking at a deal involving Francis+Boki for T-Mac as opposed to having to trade Mobley and Cato and take back Grant Hill as well. Perhaps he has his sights set on Houston and just doesn't want us to completely deplete our roster in his pursuit?

I had that same worry but everyone on here was to adamant at getting Tmac, the repercussions didn't matter.

Cat, although not on par with Tmac, is a valuable commodity..ESPECIALLY at 5 mil per season. He's a good starting SG but i think he would excel as a SIXTH man.

i hope we can dump Mo Taylors contract on them. If they want us to take a bad contract (Grant Hill/Garrity), then they need to take Mo Taylors

Not true. The Raptirs offered him the max. VC was atill under the rookie contract scale.

It was about spotlight; has has said so.

I think that's a good thing that T-Mac wants to be the "main man."

Our "goto player" should *want* the spotlight. It's obvious that Yao prefers to be the anchor player (2nd man) of this team. Not the "main man." That doesn't mean that Yao wont score 50pts one of these days. But rather just lays out the roles of the players; what's expected of them.

Im pretty sure the talks have been there. The position McGrady holds talking about houston probably stems from talks his agent might have made with the rockets or even the GM's of both the teams.

Rumors start somewhere but he added a little fuel to it. Im pretty sure CD has contacted them regarding his status and what they want for him.

Maybe with him saying Rockets are the number 1 choice that will give us a bit more leverage in getting McGrady at a cheaper price, with orlando knowing that he might just walk after next year if they don't trade him.

Not disagreeing; was just saying that the comment that he left Toronto for money was incorrect.
