^ i don't know why people are surprised about this. after the pistons signed him, they and kander explicitly stated that tmac would not do much in the pre-season if at all.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=192005 I guess watching how McGrady will do in preseason isn't so fascinating anymore.
I thought Grover said he was ready to play last year. He's had plenty of time to get into shape. I don't think a couple of weeks is going to make a big difference.
Is McGrady as delusional behind-the-scenes as he is with the media or do you think he's just trying to collect a few more paychecks even though he probably doesn't need the money? I'm guessing it's both.
Maybe this is the wake up call T-Mac needed to finally get his act together? He's never been in this situation before. Never been a free agent, that almost no team wanted to sign him. Not only that, he only gets the minumum after being one of the highest paid in the NBA. Definitely an ego check for Mr. Mac. This is probably the NBA equivalent to hitting rock bottom and sometimes that is what can make a person finally change.
Maybe it isn't... It's too late in his development for any meaningful change, particularly now that his body is dilapidated. The mental change that he needed to make needed to be made about a decade ago. I'm not saying that people can't change but the degree that he needs to change seems impossible to achieve at this point. It's unreal how many times Tracy-fans go through this cycle despite things always ending exactly the same.
That's why I said maybe. This is new territory for T-Mac. He is no longer the #1 guy. He isn't making guaranteed $20 mil. He's going to have to come off the bench. We'll see how he handles all this.
When you see NBA players that are impact players into their 30s, there is almost invariably a common theme: they are extremely hungry and dedicated athletes with outstanding attitudes and work ethic. Those characteristics are even more evident in cases where an athlete is able to overcome the kinds of physcial issues that plague McGrady. If Tracy fans can't see how he's so much the polar opposite of those types and that athletes don't change that much, if at all, mentally by this point in their careers, well... there's not much the rest of us can do for you. It just doesn't happen where an athlete can go from one extreme to the other once they're in their 30s. You are who you are at that point. You may see small periods of something different but they'll always end up reverting back to who they are in the end. The only way that McGrady could make that much of a turnaround would be if they transplanted a new brain in his body. That obviously ain't happening. He's wired the way he's wired as an athlete and a human being at this stage. Expect more of the same as this season unfolds.
T-Mac lovers always like to say that Rockets fans that dog on McGrady should have the same criticism towards Yao for being limited on minutes and consistenly being injured. But this is actually the biggest case against McGrady and his will to work his way back from Surgery. Mcgrady had Knee surgery back in February of 2009, but Yao had foot restructuring surgery in July of 2009. I dont know which surgery was more severe but I will say for sure that it takes a 7'6" human a heck of alot more to recover from major surgery than it would someone who is 6'8". Im just saying that if Yao can work hard enough to get in better playing condition than McGrady in a much shorter time and be ahead of him in playing conditioning.... boy that makes you look horrible. I understand that surgerys sometimes just do not work out right and it takes years to fully re-coupe... so take a few years off... Lieing to the media and making your trainers with high credentials lie about how good you look in "practice" just makes it look like a pre-madonna former superstar and will get you blackballed quick in the NBA. Grant Hill is the prime example of what you should do in McGrady's situation... you dissapear and work as hard as you can to come back when you are fully healthy... take a smaller contract and have something that teams need with veteran presence. Great passing and defense.
Holy! He played the secon half of last year with the Knicks, has had the entire summer, and he/The Pistons are trying to say that it'll take him a while to get back into playing shape? May take him 20 games to do so? DECEMBER? Meanwhile, Yao, the guy who really has missed a year and a half of basketball after major surgery, is actually looking pretty good playing in preseason games - a lot better than he has any business looking. And the few holdouts like blink wonder why McGrady gets so much grief.
Wow, Kim! I can't believe there are so many brainwashed people here. I've never seen anything like this! I hope you aren't talking about North Koreans cause I can't even make them think that you were an elite NBA player like Kobe! What! Kim! Back when I was in Orlando I was better than Kobe! If you were better than Kobe, then people must mistaken me for Yao Ming! Lol! hahahahaha! hahahaha!
Oh no, they will. I hope they do...and are then promptly bounced by the Miami Three who McLady so graciously (read-"like a b!itch) asked to save him a spot and a little money on the Heat.
lol sucks for mac. Even if they made the playoffs, they'd get bounce out the 1st and the streak will continue.
The game... we're not talking about the game.. i mean, come on.. the game?! I do it big in practice.. y'all talking about the game...
