Agree on stats being over-rated. However, there are four other players on the floor and a rookie head coach leading them. I'll bet that, if you took a poll of the board regarding preference, I'd bet Rudy would be the overwhelming choice over Shane.
to add on to your point BMoney, stats are for people who don't watch the damn game. I doubt this is true and this constant trade rumoring is getting beyond annoying
Stephon Marbury's contract expires in summer of 09. Two years on his contract include this year. Salary = $20,109,375, $21,937,500
Grendal....damn right thumbs, sorry man Gay may look great doing all those fancy dunks and putting up lots of points on a bad bad team. But if you can honetly and without bias watch Battier play D against the best the league has and still claim Gay is just as good, we are just gonna have to disagree....I just dont see it, and I (unlike many others here) actually watch(and like) defense. He not only makes it very hard on the best swingman the opponents have, he also spends alot of time making up for his teammates defensive lackings. I said before I understood why they did that.....it isn't really that hard once you watch everything the guy does on the court....most peoples problems around here is their perceptions are colored by the biases against the trade from day one.
This is the funniest part... like any GM worth their salt would give stuff up so the guy they just traded will be happy.
Amazing how a little rumor can take a life of its own. Already outside of Houston, it has been pretty much accepted as fact that T-Mac is unhappy here and that the Rockets are busy shopping him around. That a trade this laughable is being published as if it were fact shows how bizarre it has gotten. I'm just hoping McGrady suits up soon and shuts up all these media fools.
You know, a lot of those other players were also on the team when they won 50 games. And before you say that Gasol is slumping, Gasol had his best offensive numbers last year, Mike Miller gave the team increased offensive production as well, and they were terrible then too. And I've gone over this so many times, but the difference is entirely on the defensive end. They went from being one of the very best defensive teams to the absolute worst in a single season. Considering who they've lost, and who they've added, and then assuming you're right and Gay is a clearly better player -- I can't reconcile all that with the Grizzlies striking decline in winning percentage. Something in your argument just doesn't add up.
Its definitely an NYC story because I just heard it on the sports radio station 10 minutes ago. Swear. And sorry, but in the initial post I didn't mean to insinuate its a one for one trade. Supposedly picks or another player(s) included. Its just smoke. But we can all agree that T-Mac is unhappy. Hey! Maybe T-Mac wants to reunite with Gundy when he takes Thomas' job next year. But like I said, I don't post things like this just to post. I stand by what I said...wrong or right...or close to wrong or right.
For the record, I am against trading McGrady unless he doesn't want to be in Houston anymore. I would *never* want to trade with the Knicks since they have nothing but garbage outside of David Lee. Even when Marbury was putting up all-star numbers, he always seemed like a quintessential "I got mine" loser. Likewise, the Bulls aren't an attractive trading partner if Luol Deng is not part of a package. The larger idea that is floating out there is that McGrady is somehow a bad team player. I don't see that and never have. Since he's been here he got good shots for his teammates and hit clutch baskets when we needed them. He also plays a lot better defense than people give him credit for. People have such short memories. He put the team on his back last year. He also came out great out of the break in Adelman's system. The period when he was playing poorly this year coincided with his injury and the rest of the team shooting like crap. If anything McGrady tried to put the team on his back again and unwisely played through a more serious injury. This doesn't show that he's aloof, it shows that he wants to win for his team. The crappy NBA franchises are trying to get a top 5 NBA talent on the cheap hoping the rookie GM will do something stupid while his team is on a little streak. I don't think Morey will fall for that, but it doesn't surprise me that the hysterical knee-jerk-offs around here seriously think McGrady should be on the block.
I haven't read the entire thread, but have ya'll taken a gander at the HoopsHype excerpt about all of this? It basically looks like speculation and wishful thinking. I believe it says NY would "love" to have McGrady. Every team would "love" to have a healthy T-mac right. Anyway, I'd be extremely dissapointed to see Mac go. I want him and and Yao to have one more chance for redemption. Cod
so you're saying that McGrady is unhappy in Houston? what makes u think we can all agree to that assumption? there are no signs from him and he's always standing up and cheering from the bench when we make a play or are on a good run.
I wrote this in a thread that may be locked so I post it here. It's just to make you realize that trading T-Mac is the worst thing to do.
Take a poll and see if the BBS would agree with him being happy. Clutch, sorry for not checking with you first before posting this. But its the same guy I know and love that gave me this. I think he is good to go thats why I just went along with it.
If this is true...it's boggling my mind... If the Rockets management are going to trade T-Mac, at least get players who will be able to fit in Adelman's system. I don't think Marbury is one of them. Maybe we can get a third party involved...I can't think of any right now...maybe Heat and J-Will + fillers? If we are doing this just for expired contracts, why save more money and get one ending this year? Also ship out James and Snyder while we're at it.
What special insight does the BBS have? If you polled the BBS they would have cut Rafer Alston 10 games ago. McGrady may, or may not be happy, but there is simply NO evidence to go on. People are actually listening to Peter Vecsey, Sam Smith and Mark Stein? They have NO contacts with the Rockets and talk out of their ass half the time. It's not a huge surprise that the Knicks want McGrady- they are one of the worst franchises in sports. It only matters what the Rockets and McGrady want. The rest is just people wasting time.
