Duncan d-nuttz is pretty good ~ especially after you dunk a couple of doughnuts in the coffee and it gets that cool flavor.
I think Starbucks does not even care that much about selling coffee anymore. While regular coffee is great because of low food cost, it's just not a high profit item due to its low price. IMO Starbucks much rather sell mixed espresso drinks and frappuccinos. And I think they do a pretty good job in those two areas.
Don't feel sorry. iirc, most foods may have only a few to a few dozen compounds responsible for the flavor and coffee is well into the thousands, and has nearly 1000 compounds responsible for the aroma alone.
Buy you some beans by "Eight O'Clock Coffee"... grind it at home and brew... lightyears ahead of anywhere else. Original Pancake House has some good joe. McD's is better than you'd expect though, and strongly more consistent than StarChunk's. Some pretty decent coffee at Exxon.. the Bengal Trader brand... especially during NFL season... QT has multiple flavors... and 7-11's is always fresh as well. There is a rapper in the group known as G.R.I.T.S. called "Coffee." Whoever said they can't see why we drink coffee has not experienced much college life... or a work environment... Coffee is nectar of life at times.
Personally I like Burger King's coffee far more than McDonald's. In fact, BK Joe is my favorite. BTW, I don't use sugar, milk, or cream. Just 100% freshly brewed coffee.
Papa Nicholas is a local roaster here in IL. You can find it at all the local stores. They are pretty tasty and always fresh. you can read coffee reviews here: Coffee Reviews
