Lowest ERA in bouncy ball land. Lowest Average against as well. He really is a stud. Has sat mid to upper 90's all year. Throws a heavy ball.
If we are being honest Maton has clearly been the worst pitcher on the staff of the guys who will be here once LMJ comes back.
It's not that I don't like closers and relievers. But If they are not Rivera, Eckersley or Htown's own Billy the kid, I will always prefer a tandem effort than using relievers in game 7s. If the tandem collapses and gets got then so be it. So why would a manager, in general, embrace that philosophy, win a title with that philosophy then go away from it a few years later in the same situation for Pete's sake? But yeah I like the thought of a Lance and Javi tandem. I'll never be frustrated with Lance's contract or should he have more injuries. The guy really did sacrifice his arm in that 2017 run and last year to some extent.
I agree that Maton is having the worst year in the bullpen. But if a 3:30 ERA with a current streak of 3 ER in 12 2/3IP and only 1 of 6 inherited runners to score since July 1st is the worst on the team your bullpen is nails. And based on that and his playoff performance last year means he won't be the one sent down.
Will Smith can't be sent down he would have to be waived. No way the Astros traded for a guy to pay his salary and then waive him. Besides then fans would complain that we need a lefty in the bullpen.
Mccullers today for Sugarland: 5 IP, 7 Hits, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO, 2 HR against I'm just gonna assume the Round Rock Express played the game of their life today.
Yes .. starters above relievers when the playoffs come around. Bring in Pressly earlier and use starters to close out games. The Morton effect.
