Against the Steelers. I'm not sure if that would be a good thing for McCoy's development or health. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5680724 BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini said he is "leaning" toward starting rookie quarterback Colt McCoy on Sunday in Pittsburgh. McCoy would be making his NFL regular-season debut against the Steelers. Mangini said the possibility of McCoy playing will depend on the status of quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, who are both battling ankle injuries. Neither will practice on Wednesday. Mangini said he has confidence in McCoy, a third-round pick who struggled throughout much of the preseason. McCoy will get the majority of the snaps with the first-team offense in practice, Mangini said. On Tuesday, the Browns re-signed quarterback Brett Ratliff off New England's practice squad. Ratliff could be an option to start against the Steelers.
I think McCoy is going to be a good pro QB one day, but this is asking a bit much... Oh well...sink or swim time baby ! DD
What's so crazy about what DD said? He might turn out to be good. I doubt he'll turn out to be Drew Brees, but he might be a solid starter eventually.
I honestly think Colt will be a better NFL player than VY But on the other hand, if he starts he's toast this weekend. Good thing I have Steeler's D on FFB
This is the same Colt McCoy who the Browns were contemplating on cutting after a couple preseason games.
I doubt that was actually ever true other than an online rumor by a columnist, he was (apparently) handpicked by holmgren in the 3rd round and he wasn't going to let mangini cut him. That said, he's going to get prison raped on sunday and I'm skeptical he'll be much in the NFL. EDIT: this is the text of the original report which appears to be more speculative than anything sourced:
Well obviously it would have reflected pretty poorly on Holmgren if he was cut, but if Mangini was considering dumping him after a few preseason games that certainly isn't a good sign.
