Trump is fat - and he doesn’t exercise or eat well - and he is a hedonist glutton - and he is old, but I haven’t noticed any cognitive issues.
Nope - he still seems sharp as a knife to me. It looks like that may be changing, but I don’t know what his condition is, it is dementia or something physical.
Thune would be reasonable and perhaps the best-case replacement. But I would think the maga and right wing extremists would push for one of their own and someone like ernst or even cruz gets in line...
How many years down the road will it take before people look back on this stuff with Feinstein and McConnell and (accurately) label it as elder abuse? Neither of these people are fit to babysit a child or drive a car, so why the **** are they in these positions of power? They're being taken advantage of by their aides and/or family. (Of course, they are probably egomaniacs too and can't admit to themselves their own shortcomings.)

At a certain point it's on the voters. Kentucky voters knew McConnell was 78 when they voted for him in 2020; California voters knew Feinstein was 85 in 2018; hell, Iowa voters just reelected Chuck Grassley at 88 for a six-year-term! He'll be "representing" them at age 94 if he lives that long. I'd like to say that we must demand better of those who represent us, but half of our country doesn't even vote. The thin slice of those who participate in primaries foist this Luby's dinner time government on us.
I actually agree with Nook. Trump is generally crazy, not age related crazy. He's at a minimum a narcissist, possibly a psychopath, but I don't think he forgets where he is.
Yea, I mean, the people with the most time and interest in voting, especially in primaries, are old people. Time - They are generally retired or working less hours so they spend their time following politics and have all the time in the world to go vote. Interest - Many rely on government programs (or have friends who do) to survive. Young people have less time and their lives are generally less intertwined with government programs. And I guess old people don't think there is anything wrong with voting for other old people, who they know will represent their interests. Is SS or medicare a topic of interest to me? Sure, academically, I'm still a long long way off. Is SS or medicare a topic of interest to a 66 year old? Yes, for many of them, it's life or death or extremely critical to their ability to financially manage. Not sure how you solve the problem. The incentives, immediacy and free time are grossly skewed towards the elderly.
one problem is challengers are unwilling to make their opponent's age an issue, because they (perhaps rightly) believe it will anger seniors who vote in high percentages Another problem is most voters don't participate in the primary process, where you have the opportunity to replace these guys with someone who is younger but still shares your worldview (for whatever reason, a lower turnout primary favors the incumbent). Once you get to the general election, that is not an option.
