TIME mag has really been doing work the last couple of years. It's a bold strategy (Cotton) in today's media market, when they could produce dumb clickbait at a small fraction of the cost of actual reporting like this.
So many republicans have taken Russian money the entire party is corrupted by their greed, too bad their voters are too immersed in their lies that they don't want to find out the truth. DD
your concern just has been addressed by the canary in GOP's political coal mine, Moscow Mitch In a surprise development, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced his support on Thursday for additional money to bolster the country's election system ahead of the 2020 vote, a move that counters his earlier position resisting calls for more funding. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/co...-backs-250-million-election-security-n1056636 could this be a tell that GOP leadership will not be cleaning up the political / criminal mess emanating from the whistle blower's complaint against the current occupant in the WH, http://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php...military-aid-meant-to-confront-russia.301277/
Sir Leonard "Lev" Blavatnik is the wealthiest man in the UK or at least was in recent memory, though whatever his net worth was a few years ago has likely appreciated since then. He was knighted by the Queen for his philanthropy, and is a member of the Legion of Honor, notably giving £75m to Oxford University to found the Blavatnik School of Government, though he himself went to Harvard for his MBA, where he is is a member of the Board of Dean’s Advisors at the Harvard Business School and a member of Harvard’s Committee on University Resources. "In January 2009, the Blavatnik Family Foundation gave Harvard University two gifts totaling $10 million to support scientific and technological research." He went to Columbia for his MA in Computer Science. Oh, and he apparently gave $5m to Tel Aviv University's Computer Science Department. He's a jew born in Odessa (which is not, for the geographically impaired, in Russia, and was known as an oasis of free-thinking during the Soviet days). It's a distinction he shares with other immigrants to the US, including comedian Yakov Smirnoff, Yiddish theater legend Jacob Addler, his daugher Stella (who taught method acting to Marlon Brando), and composer Jacob Weinburg, and to Israel, notably Ze'ev Jabotinsky, who was the founder of The Jewish Legion for the British Army in WW1, the Irgun, HaTzohar, and the Revisionist Movement, which after his death would be consolidated into the Likud Party by his protege Menachim Begin. He holds only US and UK passports, has lived in the US since he was a kid in the 70s when his family immigrated from Ukraine, and has lived in London since the 80s. His company, Access Industries, owns several subsidiaries "in oil, petrochemicals, power generation, aluminum and biotechnology," several media companies, notably the Warner Music Group, Channel 10 in Israel (more than once in trouble for reporting dirt on Netanyahu and Sheldon Adelson), mobile companies in Scandinavia, Sporting News, Bad Wolf Production company (which produces Doctor Who) along with film and sports streaming stuff in the UK, and is an early inverstor in pre-IPO tech companies, notably Snapchat, Square, Yelp, Alibaba, Deezer, and Spotify. It also own lots of SoCal/Manhattan/South of France/Miami real estate. And besides, he gave more than $2.8 million to GRU operatives Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, and Lindsey Graham in the 2016 election cycle -- making Access Industries tied for 20th for total political donations in that election -- putting him above Haim Saban, but below Robert McNair. All the article talks about that, but neglects to mention he's also given money to Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, Andrew Cuomo, and Hillary Clinton and pretty much every other politician in both major parties. Or that despite giving money to the GOP National Committee and the Trump legal fund, he gave $1m to anti-Trump GOP PACs and never donated to his campaign. In the end all we have is that the man's Vladimir Putin number is lower than his Kevin Bacon one, which I suspect might not even be true considering his considerable holdings in production companies. The article posted to begin this thread alleges that we should **** ourselves that during the same period that Lev Blavatnik gave millions of dollars to Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, Andrew Cuomo, Hillary Clinton, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, and Lindsey Graham, he also gave money to Mitch McConnell. So we should be so concerned about Mitch McConnell's real loyalties because Blavatnik knows two billionaires in Russia (described as oligarchs because billionaires anywhere else apparently aren't) that know Vladimir Putin, when in reality he's a hell of a lot closer to the US, French, UK, and Israeli governments, Harvard, Columbia, and Tel Aviv University, and a massive tech and media empire that nearly everyone on Earth is a consumer of. If he really is a Nefarious Kremlin Henchman, wouldn't those other associations be at least as much a concern as Senator Mitch Turkeyneck McConnell? I'm not a fan of the outsized influence the ultra-rich have on western politics, but Blatatnik isn't even that decidedly partisan, a Trump supporter, or as controversial as other Americans billionaires that buy our politicians or even other Jewish Billionaires from the Former Soviet Union Named Lev Who Live in London. This article, like so many, is not at all interested in the truth. It was written purposely to highlight half-truths to support an agenda, and the question anyone reading it should have is for what interest for which duplicitous assholes it actually does serve that paid good money for the message to be disseminated. It was not created by mistake, and was intended for non-critically thinking people who don't know who Lev Blavatnik is to repeat as fact.
