You could at least let free agency play out more than 12 hours, and probably the draft too, before you write them off. If we manage to land Leigh Bodden at a substantially lower cost than what we offered Dunta last year, that is just smart business, and conducive to winning. We won 9 games last year without Pitts and with a former 5th round pick replacing him. I think we can fill that hole. Walter would be a tough loss, but he wasn't on the field nearly as much last year as he was in years prior...between injuries and Jacoby taking a lot of his snaps, he certainly is not an irreplaceable piece of our top offense. Now if we start the season with Quin and Reeves at corner, and no legit competition for Jacoby at WR, then we might be in trouble.
Haha Wow! There are so many ridiculous, suicidal posts in this thread because we didnt resign an over 30 offensive lineman who just had a major injury and is unknown how his body will respond, and also didnt want to spend at least 12 million to keep a corner who's skills and physical state seem to be on the decline....why aren't we firesaling?! Free agency started 11 hours ago and we (along with the majority of the NFL) havent made a move! TERRIBLE! And the draft? I cant wait that long! We are a sinking ship at exactly 11:39 am on March 5..here we go guys to another .500 season......
Absolutely! I mean c'mon: it's not like Pitts was a driving force on that OL that powered a dynamic Texans running game. As I see it there is NO POSITION on the Texans' OL that cannot be improved with better personnel.
That's not as annoying as the... "False start. number 69, offense. Five Yard Penalty, still third down."
And the locals who just know names and not the actual game yell...what? Class?? Class: WHO?!?!?! Teacher: correct!
Mario Williams, it's happened before. To be honest it wouldn't hurt my feelings if there was a move to improve the oline; a first round pick spent there, while not sexy is a very decent move IMO.
ehh...guards and centers are very rarely worth a first round pick. There is nothing that really makes a guard "special" like most other positions. Look at this years pro bowl guards and their draft round: Jahri Evans - 4th rd Jonothan Goodwin (C) - 5th rd Andre Gurode (C) - 2nd rd Kris Dielman - Undrafted Chris Snee - 2nd rd There are some exceptions, like Alan Faneca and Steve Hutchinson, but they were drafted at the tail end of the first. I would trade down if at all possible if we were to take one. Guys like Leonard Davis and Robert Gallery were drafted very high, but only moved to guard after failing as Tackles.
May not be the biggest loss, but I still got mad respect for the guy. played all those games in a row. My everlasting memory of this guy is the way he handled Jason Taylor in the first game of the 03 season, as much as people reemed the OL in the early years he played Taylor like a stud. the significance of that game, one of the few texans early highlights, only expansion team to win its first game of its inaugural and second season
Safest pick in the entire draft. He's being compared to Hutchinson. But a guard is never a sexy first round pick no matter how good he is. Bottom line, whoever snags him up is going to get a Pro Bowl caliber starting piece for their O-line right away.
Did you not notice how Pitts missed most of this past season and our running game struggled compared to last season? Or how Chester was one of the leaders on the team for the offensive line, helping develop Duane Brown, Eric Winston and several of our other offensive prospects? Pitts played at nearly a Pro-Bowl level the last season and before his injury in TC and then his season ender in the Titans game seemed primed to get another one. Pitts is incredibly solid for us and his only real knock recently has been his age and probably asking price. I remember Pitts mentioned on an interview once, that his scheduled rehab will have him cleared to work out around April or May, if all goes well. My hope is that despite signing Smith, the Texans will still give Pitts a look, although I am guessing former starting RG Briesel's days as a Texan are done.
While he got better, you were almost guaranteed to hear this or... "Holding, #69, offense. 10 yd penalty. Repeat 3rd down" just after Domanick Davis busted off a 20 yard run for a 1st.
I think you may have misspelled jeopardy. IMO, Chester was our best linemen that we have had ever but thats not saying much. The entire O line needs to be revamped besides Winston, he looked pretty solid last year. Too bad for Houston, we have so much talent at the skill positions yet no one to block for the QB to get the quarterback time to get the ball to AJ and company.
