Then he should have become a democrat and he could have run away from the toxic unpopular president that dragged him down. Actually he sounded a lot like one.

I take it that since you are such an enthusiastic supporter of his, (which obviously has noting to do with your little GOP affirmative action program) - then you agree with his comments that the IRaq war was a mistake and a failure and that the Bush Administration was to blame for Katrina?

Powell may have just disqualified himself today by saying he's not opposed to voting Dem or Ind this election:

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...l-may-support-democrat-or-independent-in-‘08/

He basically just avoided the question, but I'm not sure that's what hardcore Republicans want to hear.

So it doesn't matter that you pulled your previous post out of your hat? And that's a nicer response than you deserve.

    Impeach Bush.

    via TPM --

Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry called Mike Huckabee on Friday and asked him to drop out of the presidential race . Huckabee declined. Perry initially endorsed Rudy Giuliani but switched to John McCain after Rudy's dropped out.

Bingo. If Hillary is nominated, this is the perfect counter.

i second this from the comments:

[rquoter]Iraq: History will prove Steele and all the other doubters wrong. Bush said on Sept 12 2001 that this fight would last many years and unfortunately involve many casualties. When Iraq is secured, Iran and Syria will be sealed off each with Democracies on both sides of their borders.

Katrina: Let's face it, John Kerry would not have done any better responding to the worst natural disaster in US history.

However, the man is entitled to his opinion and dissent. All of this aside, I still trust Steele and he will have my vote. Does anyone think Cardin or Mfume will cross party lines to vote for what THEY think is right?[/rquoter]

Every time I see something like this, it saddens me.

It seems as though every time a minority takes a position with a GOP candidate or runs for office as a Republican, it must be a tongue in cheek affirmative action ploy. That must be it, because we all know the Dems are the party of inclusion, and all Republicans are sexist, biggoted homophobes. That is a pile of rubbish.

Excellent post. Only conservatives or "maverick" conservatives should vote for McCain. On militarism he is indistinguishable from Bush-Cheney-Rumsfled, though he might disagree on tactics. There is little to show he has any much flexibility-- especially when it comes to trying desperately to turn Iraq into the "victory" that the libs and the press caused us to lose in Vietnam.

Yeah, correct!! The Democrats just tried to defeat the Republican for Senate just because he was black. Nutty.

I think you're confusing the Iraq war with conservatism in general. There's nothing in regard to war that's fundamentally conservative or liberal. Remember, it was Democratic administrations that got us into Vietnam, and a Republican one that finally got us out. It just so happens that Iraq was GOP-led. On other issues, McCain has shown quite a few moderate tendencies, ranging from tax policy and global warming to immigration reform, stem cell research, and opposition to a marriage amendment.

Really? So you think it is a coincidence that basso has been pushing guys like Colin Powell (whose policy position is DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED to that of the Bush Admin - which is why he was not back for a second term) while telling us that anybody who opposes Bush/Rummy/Cheney is a traitor commie ***?

Because that's what Colin did. Yet basso still seems to love him. Why? Because he's competent? basso & the neocon chorus have spent megabytes of text tellling us why his policy is NOT competent.

Hell, let's turn back a few pages and look at condoleeza rice. Condi is a 110% foreign policy realist. Basso and the rest of the Neocon chorus has spent ALMOST A FREAKING DECADE telling us why realism (espoused by Powell) was morally bankrupt, corrupt, wrong, useless, blah blah -- this is why the war in Iraq is such a fantasticallly awesome idea - despite seeming idiotic to most realists.

That's of course just the tip of the iceberg, many of our prominent BBS conservatives have said that Condi Rice should be president because she is black, and a woman , while telling us that race should never be considered for any job for any reason ever....those are some dumb names, I tell ya...

So - are you still saddened? Please cheer up.

Right-wingers would start public burnings of McCain in effigy if he chose Kay Bailey Hutchison as his running mate. Ain't gonna happen people. He will choose someone perceived as more conservative than he is, probably much younger also. Someone like Rick Santorum, but not Rick Santorum himself.

so since its official... mccain has locked up the repub nomination...

    whos his veep gonna be?

    key factors...
    1) should be young
    2) a minority/female would be a +
    3) background in economics +
    4) someone more conservative (to placate the ultra conservatives...)

mitt romney: still dont think evalgelicals would go for mitt. business background helps though...

mike huckabee: brings in evangelicals. dont know how hed balance mccain...

rudy gulianni: northern repub. lost a lot of cred among independents by flopping on several issues.

condi rice: female minority. played a prominent role in bush administration. dont think independents would go for that.

colin powell: been off the radar. still viewed favorably among independents(?). strengthens the national security side of mccain.

bobby jindal: minority w/ economics background. way too young...

    rick perry: endorsed guilianni...

    crist: helped deliver florida.

larry craig: will bring in the gay voters. :D

Tim Pawlenty : Experience of a governor, loyal, 47 years old, puts Minnesota in the mix, outgoing, ready to settle down, etc.
