Obama camp: McCain would be committing "political malpractice" with veep leak tonight Annoyed by all the mind-games and leaks meant to divert attention from their candidate's long-anticipated acceptance speech tonight, Barack Obama's campaign is hitting back this afternoon and accusing their counterparts of playing poltiical games. "Tonight would be political malpractice," Obama communications chief Dan Pfeiffer told Politico. "It's one more piece of evidence that the McCain campaign is a war room masquerading as a presidential campaign." Pfeiffer did, however, call McCain's bluff. "If they do it, I will pay all of McCain's mortgages next month," he quipped. McCain, as Pfeiffer well knows, has no mortgages on the numerous properties and he and his wife own. Matt Drudge is teasing a potential 6 PM leak of McCain's choice on the top of his web page, creating a frenzy of speculation today as most political reporters await Obama's speech later tonight. McCain is set to roll out his choice at a rally tomorrow in Dayton, Ohio. http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonat...lpractice_with_veep_leak_tonight.html?showall
I just got a text saying that it's Pawlenty. Not from McCain, he doesn't know how to text message, just a guy that pays attention. Drudge has this article linked that hints the same: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080828/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_veepstakes
I'm watching the local Twin Cities news now to see if there are any hints but on the Startribune website they have an article saying he has cancelled several TV interviews todays, although he is still scheduled to be at the MN state fair tomorrow. I might have to slip out of work and head over to the state fair to see if McCain will be there too.
Tim Pawlenty screams boring. I don't see what he brings to the ticket. He's the safest, plainest choice. Joe Biden will own him in a vice presidential debate.
My thoughts exactly on the ownage by Biden. If he's as forceful in the debates as he was last night, Pawlenty is screwed.
Yeah, seriously. I don't understand what element he provides besides the age contrast. He certainly won't deliver Minnesota. When's the last time a Republican won Minnesota? Hell, I don't even think Reagan could do it.
It won't make a difference but Pawlenty gonna get good and owned. He sort of already is because the stories tomorrow are going to be all BO, all the time.
In 2004 Kerry beat Bush by a little less than 100,000 votes in Minnesota. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Pawlenty could make up that difference.
And that's OK - but timed right after Obama's speech tonight, a Pawlenty announcement will be quite the letdown as the GOP "response" tomorrow.
If Pawlenty really is "the guy," I think it's a mistake by the McCain camp to announce it tomorrow. It'll be swamped in the news cycle by what happened tonight. The only way McCain's going to get the disruptive news coverage he wants from a VP annoncement is if he announces someone really unexpected, someone like Joe LIEberman. And I agree that Biden would chew Pawlenty up and spit him out in a debate.
Couple of things: 1. Kerry wasn't a good fit in Minnesota 2. Pawlenty won a 3-way race the first time with 45% of the vote, and squeaked by in his re-election, with 47% of the vote (he beat the Dem by 20,000 votes). His approval rating is a bit over 50%. He's not a super-popular, bi-partisan supported governor like a Mark Warner was.
Kinda like you did in this thread on your lil' apple/tomatoes nonsense? SamFisher: Work already... your 12 paragraphs/day remarkably dictate otherwise. You'd think a self-professed genius might want do a weeee bit of work? maybe? just a hair? It's just a thought, my friend. I know you'll do nothing of the sort. And what type of law do you practice, again?
mccain will own obama? i wasn't exactly impressed by mccain's showing in previous debates. biden > pawlenty for sure. '08 is obama's to lose. this is a smack down, and mccain won't be able to do this to obama <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aUxphDg2HtQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aUxphDg2HtQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
We should do a poll: Who gives a flip about McCain's V.P. choice right now? Who will tomorrow after the announcement? Who will care other than the evening next week the veep choice gives his speech at the GOP convention? This is a non-issue. McCain won't get much buzz at all.
