Michigan, Nevada, Colorado. That's more of a potential direct electoral impact than probably any other contender.
I just read an article on Fox News saying Lieberman is still considered a possibility. I have a hard time believing that. The fundamental differences between he & McCain are hard to ignore plus there's the age factor. The critics/press would have a field day with a McCain/Lieberman ticket. The "old man" jokes and things of that nature would never stop.
Watching Biden unleashed against Romney in a VP debate would make McCain's constant jabs in the primaries look innocuous.
foxnews, which is basically a republican news service. the anchors said this morning that those 2 are basically the finalists. they had tom ridge on this morning and asked him questions and from that, they believed he's one of the finalist. pawlenty will be on tomorrow on foxnews too. i'm sure romney is still in there, but those 2 are getting a lot of coverage from foxnews right now.
IMO, he can't pick Romney at this point. I like Romney but once McCain started going "Hillary sound-byte" on Obama he pretty much all but assured he can't choose Romney for that very same reason otherwise he'll look like a hypocrite. Plus, i'm sure there's still some tension between those two after a relatively fierce primary battle. Ridge would be a solid choice but can people get over his stance on abortion? I have a tough time believing that considering how strongly McCain is doing with Catholics.
I have a hard time believing it will be Pawlenty or Ridge. Pawlenty would be eaten alive in a debate with Biden. And MN's going blue whether he's on the ticket or not. I just don't see what he adds and, again, he's a big problem in the VP debate. Ridge is, of course, pro-choice. If you think the Dem convention's divided, just wait til McCain tries to add a pro-choice VP. I think Hutchison is more likely than either of those two. Romney too. (Oh please let it be him.)
no fox news reports the news it does not make up news like MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC If you want to say CNN leans left but reports fair and that Fox reports fair but has stronger right wing personalities than it's left wing ones than I agree ie. Hannity>Colmes as far as outspokeness
A politically astute observer would recognize that the VP debate really doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Whether or not Pawlenty would lose to Hairplugs Blowhard is certainly subject to debate. Whether it means something is similarly debatable. McCain needs to nominate someone who can be the next President, after McCain is done in 8 years. Pawlenty would make an excellent choice. If Minnesota goes red, then obviously Obama returns to being the junior Senator from IL and ignoring his oversight committees again.
It is not realistic to talk about John McCain finishing two terms. Even Reagan (who was younger when running in 1980 than McCain is today) became by all accounts mentally impaired by the end of his esteemed two terms. So McCain's choice of VP is honestly more important than one might usually be. Just based on human biology, there is a greater probability that this VP could be called on to assume the presidency. I like John McCain, but there's no reason not to be honest about basic biology.
