I am not a democrat, I am an independent...... To me it is about Obama vs McCain...and that is an easy answer for me....but you have to think....what if one of them dies....what then. It plays a little in your decision and even more when one of the candidates is 72 years old.....and forgets simple things. DD
Obama: Community Planner----State Senator----US Senator Palin: City Councilwoman---Mayor---Ethics Commissioner---Governor He is a little bit longer tenured in the political scene, but I think you way over-exaggerated.
But McCain already has that experience. Just like Biden doesn't bring the same strengths/weaknesses as Obama, Palin doesn't with McCain. That's the idea - to bring different strengths to the ticket.
So Obama's lack of experience as a Presidential candidate isn't important to you, but Palin's lack as a VP is, just in case McCain dies? You really don't see the hypocrisy?
Sarah Palin is the new Alaska governor November 8th, 2006 Anchorage, Alaska - In a race that really wasn't even close, Republican Sarah Palin whipped Democrat Tony Knowles by 8% to win Tuesday's election as governor of Alaska. Alaska's next governor is the former mayor of Wasilla and self-described "hockey mom" who clobbered the incumbent governor Frank Murkowski in the GOP primary. "I really believe the message that we started with, trust and transparency in state government, is the message that we ended with," Palin told The Associated Press Tuesday. "By the grace of God, we're not going to let you down." "Resource development, respect for equality, encouragement and support for free enterprise and competition: those good platform points make for a good agenda for Alaska. They can only be progressed and built upon. Trust and transparency within the party and certainly within my administration -- that is my commitment to Alaska," Palin told KTUU. http://www.alaskareport.com/z44784.htm From 2006 Gubernatorial Win. theSAGE

Hypocrisy? I agree it's all about Obama vs McCain. I don't like either of them. I don't think Obama's lack of experience is necessarily a deal breaker and you obviously don't since you are voting for him. But, you don't care about experience with your presidential candidate, but you DO care about it with your VP candidate just in case they take office? What? You'll vote someone into the office without experience but you don't want someone to have an inexperienced person to take office in case they die? My head hurts...
Political credentials of Obama: 7 years state senate for Illinois, 4 years US senate, 8 years as law professor at U of Chicago Law, Harvard Law grad and Law Review President, undergrad at Columbia, community organizer in Chicago. Political credentials of Palin: 2 term city council member and 2 term mayor of Wasilla, AK (population five to eight thousand, approximately), 2 years as Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (resigned), 2 years as governor of Alaska, undergrad degree from U of Idaho in journalism. To me, one of those resumes is clearly better than the other. Heck, GWB's resume circa 2000 beats the pants off of Palin. The only reason she's on the ticket is her gender.
Its not so much her lack of experience, its her lack of a stance on pretty much every issue. Obama hasn't been a senator for very long, but he has a documented position on nearly every issue facing America. He has talked about what he believes in. We don't know what she thinks about Iraq, the patriot act, health care, nclb, telecom immunity, katrina, Iran, N Korea, wellfare, social security, taxes. We have no idea. In some ways this is great for Mccain, because America in general doesn't agree with him on most issues, so he needs a generic feel good VP. But for being a 75 yr old heartbeat away from the presidency, her positions need to be considered. But, overall politically i think it is a good choice. She does have a great story and face.
