Yeah, but you did that alone and you didn't get 18 million votes either..With all due respect, You couldn't even get votes on here.
agree on all counts. i would have preferred rice, but she has some baggage of her own, and in any case is a career diplomat, not a politician. i think palin will surprise some people with her tenacity. the pick will mute the "too inexperienced" arguement a bit, but in all other respects i think it's a fantastic choice.
It's a pick of desperation because I don't believe it's his first choice. Obama has forced McCain into a decision based of the strength of Obama's pick for VP, the strength of the convention. Really, besides Alaska, what other state will she deliver? What strength does she bring to the ticket? There is no WOW factor, no splash. You're right about one thing though, she is a cutie.
PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE let it not be Lieberman! Obama could win all 50 states if that happens. If it's Palin(and it may not be if she's still in Alaska as reported), then I'll agree she may not have been his first pick. So what? Biden was likely not Obama's first pick. And what states will he deliver? Delaware? They're just as meaningless in the electoral college as Alaska. And a woman on the ticket would bring a WOW factor. With women still fuming over Hillary not getting either the #1 or #2 slot, that would have an impact on the election.
Palin has some recent corruption issues of her own. I think it's either Romney or Crist (maybe there is a reason McCain hasn't put any effort into Florida).
Looks like Palin could still be it. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080829/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_veepstakes DENVER - John McCain kept his vice presidential pick a closely guarded secret hours before the high-stakes announcement Friday as top prospects seemed to drop away and speculation moved to darkhorse candidate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Two GOP strategists close to the McCain campaign said all indications pointed to Palin, 44, a self-styled "hockey mom" and political reformer. The strategists spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized by the McCain camp to discuss the matter. There was no confirmation from McCain or his advisers. With an announcement scheduled in Dayton, Ohio, an associate of Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said the governor had been informed he is not McCain's pick. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak for Pawlenty, who had all but ruled himself out.
You can hardly fault the party for not wanting a liberal Dem as the #2 on their ticket. Especially when there's at least a decent chance McCain won't be able to finish his term. Lieberman for Secretary of State is fine. As the Vice Presidential nominee, the convention would turn into a revolt. Who's left if Romney and Pawlenty have been eliminated? Crist? The gay rumors could hurt. Hutchison? Didn't she say no repeatedly? Plus McCain reportedly doesn't like her. Lieberman? Hello, President Obama. Ridge? Hello, President Obama.
I think Palin would be a brilliant pick. The possibility of a woman being on a major ticket, after an election where millions of people got so excited about the idea of a woman as President, is demographically more effective than anything else he could pick. If he can pull over 2-3% of women, that might be enough. It also eliminates the historic nature of the Dem campaign, which is a huge part of the excitement. I think I've said this many times now, but picking a woman is one of the few ways that McCain can win this election. He needs a game-changing pick, and this would be it. Romney/Pawlenty wasn't going to change the game. Palin may not either, but she'd be his best chance to do so. It throws the entire election up in the air - and that's exactly what his goal should be.
What's the corruption with Palin stuff you mentioned A_3PO? I mean I don't know much other than she's been governor for about 2 years, but it being Alaska, I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe it's an unfair stereotype, but when I think of Alaskan politicians, Dem or Repub, I see them as pork barrel artistes.
Her corruption issue: She had her brother-in-law fired from the State Troopers after he tasered his 11-year-old step-son (her nephew). This was after he had been caught poaching moose and drinking in his patrol car.
The other part of it (I don't know how true): http://www.oliverwillis.com/2008/08/14/alaska-governor-sarah-palin-in-staff-scandal/ Gov. Sarah Palin on Wednesday revealed an audio recording that shows an aide pressuring the Public Safety Department to fire a state trooper embroiled in a custody battle with her sister. Palin, who has previously said her administration didn’t exert pressure to get rid of trooper Mike Wooten, also disclosed that members of her staff had made about two dozen contacts with public safety officials about the trooper.
Palin would actually be a very good pick. She has a great story, she is hot, and she communicates well. As an Obama fan I am nervous about this.
True. But hopefully not too many, since A) McCain is at the top of the ticket and B) Palin is a relative unknown and doesn't inspire the hatred that Hillary does. Plus she's hot which could swing some skeptical dudes(even if they'd never admit it).
